With violence erupting throughout the Muslim world, all of it aimed at the U.S. there has been a lot of talk about the movie that supposedly ignited it. I have a different view.
The movie,
"Innocence of Muslims", was virtually unknown outside of as few as the ten people who went to the screening of it, and the unfortunate few who stumbled across it on YouTube. Even the still shots look cartoonish and amateurish (below).
So, if so few people had actually seen this apparent dog of a movie, how is it that it was responsible for the embassy attacks in Egypt and Libya? Certainly, if a "news" organization like Al Jazeera had picked up on it and broadcast the trailer, the entire Muslim world would have spontaneously erupted into the type of violence that we are seeing now.
The reason is that the movie never was the reason for the attacks on the U.S. embassies on
September 11th! These were coordinated attacks. Planned on the anniversary of the greatest terrorist attack on the U.S. and the West in history.
Libyan officials have said that the attacks were planned. There are reports that US officials had up to three days notice possible attacks. Yet, our Ambassador, Christopher Stevens, who was murdered along with three others, had virtually no security. I believe it will be found that he did not die of "smoke inhalation", as reported, but was beaten to death, and that Libyans were not taking him to the hospital to save his life, but were parading him in the streets, doing a victory dance.
There are still many unanswered questions regarding this disaster, but one thing is clear. The spontaneous uprising occurred AFTER the White House blamed this movie for the attacks, not before.
It is true that the attacks most certainly emboldened jihadists around the world, but the street violence was sparked by an Administration which, in an attempt to cover their own intelligence failures and incompetence, set off an Islamic firestorm by blaming a virtually unseen third or fourth-rate movie.
Not only have American's died in the initial attacks, they have now put US Embassies all over the world in danger, along with the people in them. In addition, there are Muslims dying in these protests.
The actors in the film are getting death threats. Meanwhile, Obama keeps to his schedule of fundraisers, does an
interview with the entertainment magazine 'People En Espanol' on the same day the embassy workers bodies were flown in to Andrews AFB, and goes on Letterman to yuck it up, saying he "expects the Muslim world to work with us to keep our people safe".
And we wonder why the rest of the world looks at the US as weak? Any other President would have been convening his security and intelligence teams to find our who did this, ready to kick ass and take names! But this President apologizes,
hosts known terrorists at the White House (Hani Nour Eldin), hosts Iftar dinners, throws allies under the bus (Mubarak), disrespects Heads of State (Netanyahu), and sucks up to our enemies.
Whether through sheer incompetence, mistakes, naivete', or all three, this President and his Administration have blood on their hands, and have managed in a mere three-and-a-half years to make not only the US, but the rest of the world a much more dangerous place.
