Happy Thanksgiv, er, Day Of Atonement!: Of Tofurkey, Touch Football, and "Black Thursday"

Posted by Brian
I have been reflecting on how Thanksgiving  and the United States has changed since I was a youngster back in the the 60's and 70's, and while much has remained the same, much has also changed. Those things that have remained the same, such as gathering with our family to cook the turkey and all of the side dishes,  bake pies and cookies with the kids, and watch football or listen to music, are all still intact.  We look at Thanksgiving not just as a holiday to be together with friends and family though.  Thanksgiving is a religious or spiritual holiday.  Thanksgiving is the day to give thanks to God for all of the blessings he has given us as a family, a nation, and as individuals over the past 365 days.
For too many though, the holiday has become not about giving thanks to God, but as just another day off of work/school, an excuse for the guys to drink to excess and watch football, and for the ladies to go to the "running of the bulls" at  malls and shopping centers across the country for all of the "Black Friday" deals (which started at 6PM  Thursday this year). We now usher in the "Xmas" shopping season with "doorbuster" sales that incite the absolute worst behavior in human beings to "celebrate" the birth of the man Jesus, who urges us all to treat others as we wish to be treated. I guess he never foresaw XBox Ones, Tickle Me Elmo, and other products that cause normally rational human beings to shove, hit, trample, and mace others to get whatever is deemed the holy grail of gifts this season.
So it is with that in mind that I was fortunate enough to come across the following story in an e-mail of  what Thanksgiving may look like in the not-to-distant politically correct, socialist country called the United States of America.
Thanks to Wes for the timely e-mail!

Thanksgiving... 2022

"Winston, come into the dining room, it's time to eat," Julia yelled to her husband.

"In a minute, honey, it's a tie score,"  he answered.

Actually Winston wasn't very interested in the traditional holiday football game between Detroit and Washington.  Ever since the government passed the Civility in Sports Statute of 2017, outlawing tackle football for its "unseemly violence" and the "bad" example it sets for the rest of the world", Winston was far less of a football fan than he used to be.  Two-hand touch wasn't nearly as exciting.

Yet, it wasn't the game that Winston was uninterested in.  It was more the thought of eating another Tofu Turkey.  Even though it was the best type of Veggie Meat available after the government revised the American Anti-Obesity Act of 2018, adding fowl to the list of federally-forbidden foods, (which already included potatoes, cranberry sauce, and mincemeat pie), it wasn't anything like real turkey.

And ever since the government officially changed the name of "Thanksgiving Day" to "A National Day of Atonement" in 2020, to officially acknowledge the Pilgrims' historically brutal treatment of Native Americans, the holiday had lost a lot of its luster.

Eating in the dining room was also a bit daunting. The unearthly gleam of government-mandated fluorescent light bulbs made the Tofu Turkey look even weirder than it actually was, and the room was always cold. Ever since Congress passed the Power Conservation Act of 2016, mandating all thermostats - which were monitored and controlled by the electric company - be kept at 68 degrees, every room on the north side of the house was barely tolerable throughout the entire winter.

Still, it was good getting together with family. Or at least most of the family.

Winston missed his mother, who passed on in October, when she had used up her legal allotment of life-saving medical treatment. He had had many heated conversations with the Regional Health Consortium, spawned when the private insurance market finally went bankrupt, and everyone was forced into the government health care program.  And though he demanded she be kept on her treatment, it was a futile effort.  "The RHC's resources are limited," explained the government bureaucrat Winston spoke with on the phone.  "Your mother received all the benefits to which she was entitled. I'm sorry for your loss."

Ed couldn't make it either.  He had forgotten to plug in his electric car last night, the only kind available after the Anti-Fossil Fuel Bill of 2021 outlawed the use of the combustion engines - for everyone but government officials.  The fifty mile round trip was about ten miles too far, and Ed didn't want to spend a frosty night on the road somewhere between here and there.

Thankfully, Winston's brother, John, and his wife were flying in.

Winston made sure that the dining room chairs had extra cushions for the occasion.  No one complained more than John about the pain of sitting down so soon after the government-mandated cavity searches at airports, which severely aggravated his hemorrhoids.  Ever since a terrorist successfully smuggled a cavity bomb onto a jetliner, the TSA told Americans the added "inconvenience" was an "absolute necessity" in order to stay "one step ahead of the terrorists."

Winston's own body had grown accustomed to such probing ever since the government expanded their scope to just about anywhere a crowd gathered, via Anti-Profiling Act of 2022.  That law made it a crime to single out any group or individual for "unequal scrutiny," even when probable cause was involved.  Thus, cavity searches at malls, grocery stores, train stations, bus depots, etc., etc., had become almost routine.  Almost.

The Supreme Court is reviewing the statute, but most Americans expect a Court composed of six progressives and three conservatives to leave the law intact.  "A living Constitution is extremely flexible", said the Court's eldest member, Elena Kagan.  "Europe has had laws like this one for years.  We should learn from their example," she added.

Winston's thoughts turned to his own children.  He got along fairly well with his 12-year-old daughter, Brittany, mostly because she ignored him. Winston had long ago surrendered to the idea that she could text anyone at any time, even during Atonement Dinner.  Their only real confrontation had occurred when he limited her to 50,000 texts a month, explaining that was all he could afford.  She whined for a week, but got over it.

His 16-year-old son, Jason, was another matter altogether.  Perhaps it was the constant bombarding he got in public school that global warming, the bird flu, terrorism, or any of a number of other calamities were "just around the corner", but Jason had developed a kind of nihilistic attitude that ranged between simmering surliness and outright hostility.  It didn't help that Jason had reported his father to the police for smoking a cigarette in the house, an act made criminal by the Smoking Control Statute of 2018, which outlawed smoking anywhere within 500 feet of another human being.  Winston paid the $5,000 fine, which might have been considered excessive before the American dollar became virtually worthless as a result of QE13.

The latest round of quantitative easing the federal government initiated was, once again, to "spur economic growth."  This time, they promised to push unemployment below its years-long rate of 18%, but Winston was not particularly hopeful.

Yet the family had a lot for which to be thankful, Winston thought, before remembering it was a Day of Atonement.

At least, he had his memories.  He felt a twinge of sadness when he realized his children would never know what life was like in the Good Old Days, long before government promises to make life "fair for everyone" realized their full potential.

Winston, like so many of his fellow Americans, never realized how much things could change when they didn't happen all at once, but little by little, so people could get used to them.  He wondered what might have happened if the public had stood up while there was still time, maybe back around 2009, when all the real nonsense began.

"Maybe we wouldn't be where we are today if we'd just said 'enough is enough' when we had the chance," he thought.

Maybe so, Winston.  Maybe so.

Austin Prof: Thanksgiving A "White Supremacist" Feast, Founders Like "Nazi's"

What is it about these leftist academe's, that they are so angry and wracked with "white guilt" over virtually everything celebrated in the United States?
Whether it's Thanksgiving,  Christmas, President's Day, or Independence Day, it is assured that one of these pointy headed intellectuals is going to crawl out from whatever liberal hellhole they have been marinating in to speak of the "inherent racism" of the country. To them, virtually everything about this country is racist.  Not lost in all of this is the fact that it is men and women like this who we send our young people off to, to be "educated".
Even after electing a black man to the Presidency, not once, but twice, the left continues to pound the drums of racism.  Not only is the country and it's first citizens all racists, as are all of our founding documents, but by virtue of DNA we are still racists to this day.
The question I have is this:  IF, as this guy, the University of Austin's Robert Jensen, and so many others of the lefts' illuminati seem to believe, this country is so unbearably racist, why do they continue to stay here?  Why not move to, and become residents of, one of these so-called "tolerant" societies? Certainly, there must be literally dozens to choose from. The reason is because, contrary to these idiots' claims, the United States is the most tolerant, diverse country on the planet.  For now.
Most people in this country want to just live their lives, have the opportunity to make an honest living , spend time with their family and friends, and really don't care, or even think much, about race/sexual preference/so-called income inequality/climate change, etc.  It is the leftist ne'er-do-well's who obsess on this stuff.  If it's hot, we turn on a fan, or the A/C, drink some lemonade, and deal with it. We don't automatically go: "Wow! The global warming is really kicking in today.  I better not drive call Fred to see if he wants to car-pool in so we can lower our carbon footprint."  We also don't think about whether our neighbor makes more than we do, not do we despise him if he does. It is motivation to do better. OR, we may be satisfied with where we are. Happy that we don't have to put in the longer hours he or she does to maintain the bigger house and newer car.
Guys like this Professor Jensen are not the super-intellectual beings that they perceive themselves to be. In fact, they are small-minded, unhappy little plebes, wishing to rid themselves of their own guilt and pathetic self-image by inviting us to share in their misery.
Thanks, but no thanks.

Thanksgiving Celebrates Our 'Original Sin,' 'Views Virtually Identical To Nazis,' Journalism Prof Preaches
By Dan Gainor November 22, 2012

Forget all that turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, today should be a day of fasting and atonement for American “sin.” That’s according to Robert Jensen, a journalism professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Jensen, known for his hard-left politics, also calls Thanksgiving a “white-supremacist holiday.”

Jensen’s opinion piece “No Thanks for Thanksgiving,” appeared on the far-left, Soros-connected website Alternet on Thanksgiving eve. In it, he wrote how Native Americans suffered because of the “European invasion of the Americas.” He went on to compare the Founding Fathers to Nazi Germany. “How does a country deal with the fact that some of its most revered historical figures had certain moral values and political views virtually identical to Nazis?” he asked.

MSNBC's Harris-Perry's Revisionism: Thanksgiving About "Violence, Disease, and Land Theft"

Posted by Brian

H/T to The Blaze for video

For those who watch MSNBC, and were unfortunate enough to watch Melissa Harris-Perry's Thanksgiving send-off, you got a lesson into the kind of crap that is also being taught to kids from elementary through college age.
Keep in mind that Harris-Perry in not only an MSNBC anchor, but is a political science professor at Tulane, She also travels the country doing speaking engagements, poisoning the minds of students with her anti-American and racist BS from coast to coast.
This is a person who sees most things through a racial lens.  The attacks on the World Trade Center?  "It gave whites an "imagined racial enemy." When support among liberals was waning for President Obama, she blamed it on electoral racism".  Voter ID? Racism, of course.  Therefore it is no surprise that she sees the first Thanksgiving as nothing more than the raping and pillaging of the Indians, and little else.  After all, the Pilgrims were white. They were racist simply by virtue of their skin color.  I'm racist just for writing this.
For a true story the first Thanksgiving, I recommend reading "Of Plymouth Plantation", written by William Bradford, the 2nd governor of the original Plymouth Plantation.  This text is widely regarded as the most comprehensive account of the original pilgrims and of the first Thanksgiving., and gives a historically accurate account of that time, in contrast to Harris-Perry's racist historical revisionism.

President Obama Rewrites History Of Thanksgiving: "A Celebration Of Community"

I guess you go with what you know. In the case of President Barack Obama, what he "knows" is community organizing. So, I guess it should come as no surprise that his 2011 Thanksgiving speech to the nation was about "community", "mutual responsibility" (or shared sacrifice), "each of us must do our part", and that the first Thanksgiving was a "celebration of community". He does give the obligatory thanks to our troops, as he should, but most of this address is simply socialist/Marxist ideals cloaked in soft, fuzzy rhetoric.
The truth is that the first Thanksgiving was not about a "celebration of community", as Obama would have us believe, but was to give thanks and praise to God, who had provided for them a bountiful harvest.
(1) Of the 101 who had originally come to Plymouth colony, half died. The original settlers actually had set up a communal lifestyle, with no private property, and all work and food was to be used for the "common good". Sound familiar? William Bradford, the first governor of the Plymouth colony soon realized the inequity, as some would feign sickness or some other ailment, while a minority, who were more industrious, were providing all of the food and work, but which was insufficient to sustain the colony. It was at this time that Bradford established "private" property rights. Now, what you produced or grew (with the help of the local Indian tribes, who showed the new settlers how to grow local vegetables) belonged to you and could be traded or bartered for other goods or services. Those who were at one time "too sick" or "too tired" to work became productive members of the colony. Suddenly, the sustainability of the colony was more secure, and their standard of living increased. The first Thanksgiving was not about a celebration of "community", but was to give thanks to God for a bountiful harvest, private property, and free-market capitalism.
George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation acknowledges this with the simple statement "acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.
The Thanksgiving holiday is not a celebration of community, but an acknowledgement that all of our blessings come from God and that we use this day to thank and praise him for the abundance that each of us has.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Les Nessman's live Hindenburg-like play-by-play of a turkey giveaway gone wrong is still one of the most hilarious things I've seen to this day, and is alone worth the time to view this.
