Philly mayor backs soda ban in D.C. after opening Shake Shack
June 07, 2012 -- 2:33 PM
With the first place Washington Nationals repeatedly walloping the last place Phillies this year, you’d think Philadelphia know-it-alls would steer clear of D.C., especially those who can’t back up their bragging.
But that wasn’t the case Thursday when Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter came to Washington to give the keynote address at the National Soda Summit on Capitol Hill. He came with a message very similar to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg: people are fat because they eat too much and drink too many sodas.

From The Who Gives A S**T File! Restaurant Food Has Too Many Calories and Fat
Posted by Brian
A story custom ordered for Michael Bloomberg.
Now that the media has picked up on this study, it's only a matter of time before the Bloomturd's of the world start pushing for legislation to reduce portion sizes, reduce the amount of fat grams, and put limits on salt in restaurant food. In other words, all of the stuff that makes restaurant food taste good, and draws us out of our own kitchens to go out and treat ourselves to some rich, fatty goodness.
No. it is governments' "job" to protect us from ourselves and to remove any inkling of personal responsibility from its citizens. Big Nanny will tell us what we should eat, how much, and when.
Overreaction? Just wait.
Study: 96% of restaurant entrees exceed USDA limits
By Bruce Horovitz, USA TODAY
If you plan to chow down tonight at a big chain restaurant, there's a better than nine-in-10 chance that your entree will fail to meet federal nutrition recommendations for both adults and kids, according to a provocative new study.
A whopping 96% of main entrees sold at top U.S. chain eateries exceed daily limits for calories, sodium, fat and saturated fat recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, reports the 18-month study conducted by the Rand Corp. and funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

So much for serving the homeless.
The Bloomberg administration is now taking the term “food police” to new depths, blocking food donations to all government-run facilities that serve the city’s homeless.
In conjunction with a mayoral task force and the Health Department, the Department of Homeless Services recently started enforcing new nutritional rules for food served at city shelters. Since DHS can’t assess the nutritional content of donated food, shelters have to turn away good Samaritans.
For over a decade, Glenn Richter and his wife, Lenore, have led a team of food-delivery volunteers from Ohab Zedek, the Upper West Side Orthodox congregation.

New Video Shows Students Knew They Were Going To Be Pepper Sprayed and Didn't Mind
The War on Police
Cliff Kincaid — November 25, 2011
Rather than being victims of police brutality, a new video shows that Occupiers at UC Davis knew they were going to be pepper sprayed and didn’t mind it. Indeed, the new video evidence indicates that the entire confrontation with the police was staged for the benefit of the media, which took the bait and ran with it, making police out to be cruel and heartless villains. The new video evidence demonstrates that the police had not only warned the protesters in advance about what was going to happen but one demonstrator says to the police, “You’re shooting us?” and, after getting an affirmative answer, replies, “That’s fine.” Another tells her comrades, “Keep your eyes closed.” Several are seen covering their faces.

Judge: You Have No God-given Right To Choose What Food You Eat
Posted by Brian
What does tyranny look like? Some Wisconsin families are finding out first-hand after a judge ruled that they cannot drink milk from their own cows, but are prevented from doing so by the state. The judge ruled that they are bound by the rules and regulations of Wisconsin and ruled that their family farm is, by law, a dairy.
This is not the first that you may have heard of local and federal agents going after Americans for eating or drinking "unlawfully". Here are just a few stories regarding this kind of tyrannical behavior:

Got Raw Milk? Be Very Quiet
So, how far should the FDA and the feds go where what we eat or drink is concerned. Of course there are public health issues be taken into account, but the law is written in such a way that, if they suspect (with no evidence) that a food item might be tainted that they can seize the food. And seize it they do - with full SWAT regalia and guns drawn, like a scene right out of The Blues Brothers. Even if they have reasonable suspicion that items may pose a public health issue, the full military show of force tactics can only be there for one reason - to create intimidation and fear. Do they really believe that an Amish family sitting around the table poses the same risk as a sophisticated marijuana operation or meth lab?
Let me know what you think. I am interested in other points of view as well as those that agree with me.
