Balanced Budget Amendment Fails - Four Republicans Join Dems on Vote

Posted by Brian
Even as it was announced this week that the nation's debt has reached $15 Trillion, Congress still cannot find it within themselves to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment. The addition of 4 Republicans who voted with the Democrats against the amendment show that we still have a ways to go to get a Congress which represents "We The People".  Nearly three-in-four Americans support a Balanced Budget Amendment.
The four Republicans who voted against the Amendment were:

Justin Amash (R-MI)
David Dreier (R-CA)
Ryan (WI)
Gohmert (R-TX)

David Dreier of California had one of the more nonsensical reasons for his Nay vote - because Congress had balanced the budget back in 1997, that shows that no Amendment is needed.  No, Congressman, a balanced budget is needed because very seldom will you have enough Congressmen with the fortitude to do the tough work, and take the arrows coming their way, to get to a balanced budget.  This has been only too apparent in recent years, as Congress has gone on a spending spree unrivaled at any time in history - and with the American people screaming bloody murder for the insanity to stop.
Although I am somewhat perplexed by Paul Ryan's vote, at least his reasoning was more sound than that of Dreier:

There are far too many big government liberal Republicans who vote with the Democrats, which is a Democrat party which spends like money like crack addicts.  Until we replace these big government GOP's and a whole lot of the leftist Dems in Congress with Constitutionally-sound conservatives, the country will continue to slip further into the abyss.

House defeats balanced budget amendment

The House on Friday rejected a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, falling well short of the two-thirds vote required and signaling a striking slide since the amendment’s high point in the 1990s.

Weak House GOP: Balanced Budget Amendment, No Cap On Spending

Posted by Brian
Are the leaders of the House GOP politically suicidal? John Boehner, Eric Cantor and the rest of the buffoons seem bent on handing the 2012 elections to the Democrats.  Not that GOP and so-called independent voters will vote Democrat, but that many of those voters will be so disgusted or depressed that they will stay home.
The latest foray into self-destruction is the latest version of a "Balanced" Budget Amendment being put forth by the House GOP.  The Amendment allows those in Washington to spend however the hell much they want, and removes the two-thirds supermajority vote to raise taxes. They have handed Obama and the Democrats a gift with this crap.  Already the White House is coming out in opposition, knowing it will play well with the media, and hurt the GOP. Dunces!
It is supposedly a means to get spending under control, but it will only lead this, and future Congresses, to spend as much as they want, and raise taxes in order to bring the budget into balance.  But what if they cut spending? Not going to happen. When was the last time the Government actually made any real cuts? When government says they are cutting spending, it is always a decrease in the amount of money they have already projected they would spend - what they call baseline budgeting.  They never really cut any spending - only a decrease in the projected increase.
To my conservative friends around the country: We need to primary as many of these "establishment" turncoats as possible, and get rid of the weepy Boehner, spineless Cantor, as many of their minions as possible, and put new "conservative" leadership into the GOP House and Senate.  We have the numbers in Congress.  Now we need cojones.

GOP House Will Vote on Balanced Budget Amendment That Permits Unlimited Federal Spending

(CNSNews.com) – House Republicans are set to vote later this week on a balanced budget amendment (BBA) that would not cap federal spending as a percentage of GDP or require a supermajority to raise taxes.
Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said the vote would probably take place this Friday.
Cantor said that this version of a BBA, H.J. Res 2 -- rather than one that would cap federal spending, H.J. Res 1 -- was the version “overwhelmingly” favored by House Republicans.

Republicans Need New Leadership

To understand why conservatives across the fruited plain are fed up with, not only Obama and the far-left, but with Congressional Republicans as well, one need look no farther than the "leadership" of Speaker of the House, John Boehner.  He is indicative of what is wrong with our government on so many levels.
His latest outrage is the completely asinine statement of "not ruling out" support for a balanced budget amendment which doesn't limit federal spending.  This is typical inside-the-beltway politicking at its very worst. It plays right into the hands of Democrats in that, despite calling it "balanced", leaves open tax hikes on everything in sight to get to a "balance".  Boehner has shown himself to be every bit the slippery politician as Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, or any of the others who talk out of both sides of their mouth.  At least with Reid and Pelosi you don't have to guess at their ideological agenda.  They are far-left and proud of it.  Boehner, and many other members of the GOP in Congress, are more despicable because they claim to stand for conservative principles, while compromising them at every turn.
Conservatives need to primary as many of these RINO's as possible with authentic conservative thinkers. In addition, conservatives in Congress need to remove Boehner from his position as Speaker, install a true conservative into that post, elevate other conservatives to the leadership positions, minimizing the influence of the weak-kneed, status quo, liberal wing of the GOP.

Boehner Won't Rule Out 'Balanced Budget Amendment' That Permits Unlimited Federal Spending

(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) indicated at a press briefing Thursday that the House Republican leadership is not ruling out the possibility that it will support a balanced budget amendment that does not cap federal spending as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product or require a supermajority in Congress to increase taxes.
