Obama Says Trips To Battleground States Not 'Campaign Stops", Charges Taxpayers

Obama Giving Speech To Univ. Of Iowa students. Does this look like "official business" or a campaign speech?

RNC chief accuses Obama of campaigning on taxpayer's dime

By Amie Parnes - 04/25/12 05:35 PM ET

The Republican National Committee is asking the Government Accountability Office to examine President Obama's "misuse" of government funds to benefit his reelection campaign.

In an official complaint filed with the GAO, a watchdog agency, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus accuses Obama of "passing off campaign travel as official events," using taxpayer money to fund his reelection efforts.

"Given the recent excesses, waste and abuse uncovered in the General Services Administration, the GAO should be particularly sensitive to misuse of taxpayer dollars," Preibus wrote in a letter to Comptroller General Gene L. Dodaro.

Priebus said "the most recent example" of abuse took place this week as Obama traveled to North Carolina, Colorado and Iowa, three battleground states to promote student loan legislation. The RNC chairman points out that Obama delivered speeches to "cheering crowds of college students" which resembled campaign events.

Obama 2008 Staffer Arrested For Identity Theft In Possible "Dirty Tricks" Campaign

Dirty tricks in Iowa involving former Obama 2008 staffer?
POSTED AT 12:20 PM ON JANUARY 21, 2012 BY ED MORRISSEY

Zachary Edwards
It’s difficult to know whether to tell this story in straight or reverse chronology, but either way, it raises eyebrows about the tactics that Iowa Democrats will deploy in 2012.  Let’s take this in reverse.  The story starts with an arrest yesterday in Des Moines of Zach Edwards, who works at Link Strategies as its Director of New Media:

Zachary Edwards was arrested Friday and charged with identity theft.  The Iowa Department of Public Safety issued a news release saying Schultz’s office discovered the scheme on June 24, 2011 and notified authorities.  The criminal complaint says Edwards fraudulently used or attempted to use the identity of Schultz or Schultz’s brother with the intent to obtain a benefit. No other details were given.

Final Count: Santorum Won Iowa by 34 Votes Over Romney?

Posted by Brian
In one of the closest primary races in memory, it appears that it is Rick Santorum, and not Mitt Romney, who is the winner of the Iowa caucuses.  Curiously, or maybe not so curiously, the GOP is calling a 34 vote win by Santorum a "split decision", while they called an apparent 8 vote advantage for Romney on election night a "Romney win".  This seems to lend some credence to the thought that the GOP establishment has anointed Romney the nominee maybe even before the first primary was held.  Regardless, this puts a bit of a dent in Romney's claim of having won the first two primary contests of the season, and being the "only candidate" who can defeat Obama. The question is whether Santorum will get a retroactive bump from this news, as voters may not now see a Romney candidacy as inevitable. Combine this with Rick Perry dropping out, and a possible exodus of Gingrich supporters due to his ex-wife's allegations, and Rick Santorum could have a better than expected showing in S. Carolina, with momentum going into Florida.  Santorum would also do well to use this news as an opportunity to remind voters that Romney can be beat with a consistent message of conservative principles.
This race may just be heating up.

Final Count in Iowa: Santorum up 34 Votes over Romney--8 Precincts Will Never be Counted

(CNSNews.com) - Former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney apparently did not win the Iowa caucuses after all. Former Sen. Rick Santorum -- who trailed by a mere 8 votes in the initial tally -- actually beat Romney by 34 votes, according to the certified vote totals.

The Des Moines Register broke the story at 7 a.m. Thursday, a few hours before the Iowa Republican Party planned to release the final numbers.

But -- in another twist -- the final numbers are not reliable, because eight Iowa precincts could not have their totals certified, the Register reported. A Republican party official told the newspaper, "It's a split decision."

Obama's Iowa Crowd Not "Fired Up" - Obama Appears Tired, Old

Posted by Brian
President Obama, speaking to about 200 supporters through an internet broadcast was met with silence by supporters.  The broadcast had some technical glitches, such as static-y audio, but the President looked older, with his gray showing up prominently on the monitors, as well as sounding tired and unenthusiastic.  Certainly a far cry from the messiah-like image that was presented to the American people in 2007 and 2008. It could also be that they audience has heard this same speech over and over, continuing to claim that the problems were worse than they thought, making things fairer, yada, yada, yada. Regardless, Obama's speech was listless and uninspired.

Shock Rasmussen Poll: Romney 45% Obama 39%

Posted by Brian
Eleven months out of the next Presidential election, the latest Rasmussen poll has GOP contender Mitt Romney opening up a six point lead over Barack Obama for the highest office in the land. This is considered a major sea change in the race as earlier in the week pollsters and pundits were reporting that Obama's approval numbers were surging to the upper 40's.  It also shows that the polls don't mean squat, as up to this point not a single vote has been cast for any candidate.  Hell, Newt Gingrich led Mitt Romney 38% - 17% on December 1st! Less than a month ago!
It is less than a week before the Iowa caucuses, which are insignificant in the grand scheme of the primary season (Just ask Mike Huckabee, Tom Harkin and Dick Gephardt who all won IA), as are the New Hampshire primaries (though less so - John McCain won the 2000 NH GOP primary). The bottom line is this: Vote for the candidate who most closely aligns with your ideology and beliefs. This is what the primary season is for.  The media has already pre-ordained Romney as the winner, and he may win the nomination. We don't know. Do the media and all of the pundits share your values, beliefs, and values?  No.  Then why do so many give up on their candidates because the an article in the paper, or that Brian Williams reports that only this or that candidate has a chance of winning?  It doesn't matter who wins the GOP nomination - Romney, Paul, Bachmann, Perry, et al.  Whoever it is, the media are going to try to destroy that candidate when they get the nomination, because the media's "job", in their minds, is to get Barack Obama reelected.
Go out and vote your values in the primaries, not the media's.

2012 Presidential Matchups Election 2012: Romney 45%, Obama 39%
Thursday, December 29, 2011

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.
The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Are Race Based Attacks On The Rise?

Posted by Brian

A group of white supremacists kill a 49 year old black man in Mississippi, only three days after black teens target white victims at the the Wisconsin State Fair.  A group of about thirty black men beat a white man, openly calling it "Beat Whitey Night", at the Iowa State Fair last August.  This was not supposed to happen in Obama's 'post-partisan' world.  Yet, it is happening.  These aren't confrontations between  groups of individuals.  These vicious acts are targeted towards those whose only mistake was being a white or black person in the wrong place at the wrong time.  I am afraid that these types of incidents are only going to get more frequent as political rhetoric intensifies leading up to the election in 2012.  The demonization of the Tea Party is already under way.  We are told that we are older white people who are racists, bigots, homophobes, anti-Mexican, and are compared to terrorists. Most who hurl these accusations have never been to a Tea Party event.  If they had been, they would see that there are blacks, Hispanics, whites, men, women, old, young, Democrats, and Republicans. As with any large gathering there are going to be those who bring signs which are in bad taste, or even racist.  At the events I have been to, those individuals have been asked to leave and that we are not supportive of those views.  Of course, those are the signs that are featured on the news to further the notions of racist Tea Partiers.  Lucky for us we are also treated to the likes of Janeane Garafolo, who apparently has designated herself to speak for every black in the country, saying the disagreeing with President Obama is "racism, straight up".  I disagreed with President Clinton too, and we were told that he was the first black President, so I guess I have been a "racist straight up" since the early 90's.

With Obama continuing to use his rhetoric to divide by race, income status, and other means, pitting American against American, I have serious concerns that these incidents are only going to become more common, and involve larger numbers of people and victims.
