Obama Energy Policy Destroying Economy, Even as GAO Reports 3 Trillion Barrels Under Fed Land

Posted by Brian
HT to CNS News

While the price at the pump remains high, average gas prices are slowly coming down in some areas of the country (though where I am , the price has recently recently seen a small increase, and remains over $4/gal.).  This, despite the fact that the GAO has reported that there are over  3 Trillion barrels of known crude oil reserves in the Green River Formation. But don't expect to see it anytime soon. Remember, the Obama Administration, which a few months back said that they should not be blamed for high prices, as they have no direct control over the pump price, and anyway, we can't drill ourselves out of our dependence on oil.  Laughably, they now want to take credit for pump prices going down.

David Axelrod is now saying that Obama should get credit for the drop in prices.

The Democrats are, if anything, schizophrenic in their consistency. When prices went up to $4/gal under Bush, it was blamed on the "two oil men in the White House".  The media ran daily stories on the pain at the pump. When prices dropped to under $2/gal several months later, Democrats and the MSM were silent.  Contrast that with Obama and the mainstream media's reporting, which has been a mirror image of the reporting during Bush.  Prices go up, Obama has NO control, and there are few stories on the "pain at the pump". Prices go down, Obama credited.

The fact that the media is biased towards Obama is no surprise.  What's surprising is that they make it so easy to expose their bias.  They are not even trying to hide their lack of journalistic ethics any longer. They might as well wear Obama 2012 attire on the nightly news.  Diane Sawyer can barely contain her idolatry of the President.

The Democrats can no longer have it both ways.  Bloggers and the new media are holding them accountable, in their own words, for what they've said and done in the past.  It is all out there for those who look hard enough.  Democrats tell us that drilling for new oil will not produce any results for ten years.  They said same thing back in 2002, or ten years ago.  What might that have done for America's foreign dependency if we had started to drill in ANWR back then?  I'll tell you. We would have an additional 1.5 million barrels of oil a day going into the supply!  Using the laws of SUPPLY and demand, how might that affect the price? Hmmmm?

President Obama and the media are only partially correct when they say that he, or any President can affect price at the pump.  Much of the price is determined by the speculator market, taxes, regulations, environmental impact statements, et. al. But the President, and the Congress, do have some effect on prices at the pump.

When the President goes out and puts a moratorium on drilling offshore, thus taking all of that oil out of the supply, and  creating insecurity in the oil markets, that is going to have an effect of higher prices at the pump.  Obama correctly states that oil production is up since he took office, which is technically correct.  What he fails to mention is that the increase is on private lands, of which he has no control.  Oil production on federally owned lands is at a nine-year low.

Obama, and the Democrats, also blocked production of the Keystone Pipeline, a pipeline which Americans supported 2-1, which would bring in over 700K barrels per day to the U.S. from Canada, and create an estimated 179,000 jobs.  Obama, when presented with an opportunity to really provide shovel-ready jobs to out-of-work Americans, killed the deal.  He eventually "okayed" the Southern portion of the pipeline, from Oklahoma to the Gulf, but this was a PR ploy.  That portion was going to be built regardless, as it is entirely within the U.S.  The portion which actually needed his approval was the portion which crossed the international boundary from Canada to the U.S.

Dems use our dependency on foreign oil as a talking point for promoting "green technology".  Much of  what is called green, though you can call it a noble cause, is decades from being efficient enough, cost-effective, or reliable enough to replace coal, gas, or oil.  But being "noble" is not what many on the Democrat side are concerned with.

Case in point on the opposition of Dems to the Keystone XL project: Weaning us off of foreign oil is a big lib talking point and Chuck Schumer, Democrat Senator from New York, who opposed Keystone, then called on the Saudis to increase their oil production to bring down prices!  Notice that Schumer, like all the Democrats, does understand how supply affects the price!  They LIE to the American people when they say that they have no control.  Yet government and environmental wackos lobby for, and block the means of getting oil and coal to market. Using environmental laws, issuing moratoriums, revoking permits to coal companies, blocking the construction of additional refineries, mandating different "blends" of gas for winter and summer.  Designed to lower pollution, they have done little more than create higher prices at the pump, through higher costs in production, storage, shipping, and through creating shortages, by not having a single nationwide standard for gas.  Many states have their own "boutique" fuels.  For example. if a refinery goes down in California, they cannot just import fuel from Arizona to offset the loss of production, as each state have their unique boutique fuel blends.

Obama's policies, even the ones he inherited, have a significant effect at the pump, and in other areas of the economy.  Policies such a Obama's, which hinder the supply of a product to market, will be felt by consumers, in the form of higher prices for gas, food, and every other consumer product. It was Barack Obama who said that energy prices would naturally skyrocket  under his policies.

It may be the only time that Barack Obama has told the truth to the American people.

GAO: Recoverable Oil in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming 'About Equal to Entire World’s Proven Oil Reserves'

(CNSNews.com) - The Green River Formation, a largely vacant area of mostly federal land that covers the territory where Colorado, Utah and Wyoming come together, contains about as much recoverable oil as all the rest the world’s proven reserves combined, an auditor from the Government Accountability Office told Congress on Thursday.

Obama Crony Warren Buffet Sees Profits Double

Posted by Brian

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. Rises 15%

Obama crony, billionaire CEO Warren Buffet of Berkshire Hathaway is a happy man these days.

Yesterday, Berkshire Hathaway reported that first quarter earnings had more than doubled, mostly due to fewer losses in their insurance holdings.

Yet one thing jumped out at me in the story, which was a significant rise in profit for their Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad holdings of 15%.

Why is this significant?  Because during the battles for approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, which the Obama Administration was opposing due to "environmental" reasons, and having only 60 days to review the proposal.  This of course was a lie, as the State Department had already issued three separate environmental impact statements over three years, finding that there would be "no significant impact" on the environment from the pipeline.

What we did find out is that Warren Buffet would stand to profit handsomely from the President's blocking of the pipeline, as all oil from Canada would have to be transported by Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail.  Political contributions, and shilling for the President on soaking the rich, will buy you that kind of favor, and even get you a piece of legislation named after you.  Especially when you're dealing with a man like Barack Obama, who has made a political career out of Chicago-style scorched-earth politics.

Fast forward several months, and we find that (SHAZAM!) Berkshire Hathaway's BNSF holdings saw a 15% increase in profits.  Coincidence? Only if you're gullible to the point of voting for someone like Barack Obama.

This is crony-capitalism at its most slimy.

Obama's Keystone Pipeline Handling Worthy Of The Chavistas

Obama Banana Republic

by KEITH KOFFLER on JANUARY 23, 2012, 8:22 PM
Are we living in a Banana Republic? A place where laws are passed for fun and broken for sport?
That’s what Wall Street Journal Latin American affairs columnist Mary Anastasia O’Grady, who covers Banana Republics for the newspaper, wants to know.
In a column published today, O’Grady accuses Obama of UNMITIGATED CYNICISM AND ABUSE OF POWER in his handling of the Keystone XL pipeline, suggesting his behavior is worthy of the Chavistas and likely to chill future investors in U.S. infrastructure.
Like all Banana Republic satraps, this one is claiming perfect adherence to the laws of the land, even as he bends them for his own political ends.

Surprise!! Obama Supporter Warren Buffett Hits It Big With Denial Of Keystone Pipeline

Posted by Brian
Crony-Capitalism is alive and well in the Obama Whitehouse. Friend Of Barack, Warren Buffett is the big winner in the Obama Administration's decision to deny the building of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Buffett owns the Burlington Southern Santa Fe Railroad which will be used to transport oil by rail from Canada to the U.S. refineries. Buffett will now be allowed to expand his railway empire to handle the extra business.  According to the administration, this will have less of an environmental impact on wetlands, though it will be costlier (higher prices at the pump), and will produce more Greenhouse gas emissions.  It also prevents the creation of an estimated creation of a minimum of 20,000 new jobs, and as many as 100,000 jobs. While Americans are out of working and hurting, Obama is laughing all the way to the bank, as this will most certainly ensure a sizable donation (payoff) to Barack Obama's reelection campaign war chest.
This has little to no effect on Obama though, as he simply looks at it as a way to shore up his support with the Hollywood elite and his enviro-marxist supporters. The media and the Obama zombies, for all of their talk about the evils of the capitalist system, will simply ignore the fact that this is the worst kind of cronyism, as people like Warren Buffet get richer through political graft and corruption.

Buffett’s Burlington Northern Among Winners From Keystone Denial

By Jim Efstathiou Jr. - Jan 22, 2012 9:00 PM PT

Warren Buffett’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC is among U.S. and Canadian railroads that stand to benefit from the Obama administration’s decision to reject TransCanada Corp. (TRP)’s Keystone XL oil pipeline permit.

With modest expansion, railroads can handle all new oil produced in western Canada through 2030, according to an analysis of the Keystone proposal by the U.S. State Department.
“Whatever people bring to us, we’re ready to haul,” Krista York-Wooley, a spokeswoman for Burlington Northern, a unit of Buffett’s Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK/A), said in an interview. If Keystone XL “doesn’t happen, we’re here to haul.”

Obama Punts on Keystone Pipeline, Votes to Kill Tens Of Thousands Of Jobs

Posted by Brian
President Obama, in an obvious election year pander to his far-left base, announced that he is blocking the Keystone Pipeline because a 60 day deadline is not enough time to make a determination on the proposed route.  Never mind that the pipeline would create over 20,000 jobs. Never mind that the pipeline would lessen U.S. dependence on foreign oil. Never mind that the route was proposed well over a year ago. This simply another step in Obama's "green" policy to devastate the U.S. economy, and thus making us more vulnerable to foreign interests (Psst! Hey Barry! Remember Iran and the Strait of Hormuz?!). Rising gas prices, real unemployment over 11%, and BHO says he doesn't have enough time to make a decision?  Truth is, when coming to the correct decision on anything, BHO couldn't find his a**hole if he was given a funnel.

Obama Rejecting Pipeline, Pokes Back At GOP

Updated: January 18, 2012 | 2:34 p.m.
January 18, 2012 | 12:56 p.m.
In a decision sure to re-ignite a fierce energy debate, the Obama administration was announcing on Wednesday its rejection of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline because the 60-day deadline imposed by Republicans did not allow adequate time to review an alternate route through critical wetlands in the Midwest.
Deputy Secretary of State William Burns was to make the announcement on the project that would carry oil from Canada's carbon-heavy tar sands to refineries on the Gulf Coast and would indicate that TransCanada, the company seeking to build the $7 billion, 1,700-mile pipeline, will be able to reapply with a new route avoiding an ecologically sensitive area of Nebraska, sources told National Journal.
Put more simply, the Obama administration is hitting Republicans back by saying no because of their forcing him to decide on the project in just 60 days. Republicans in Congress and on the campaign trail promptly painted the decision as a rejection of thousands of American jobs purely for political reasons.
