Supreme Court Rules Government can Spy on Americans

Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Federal Government can continue to Spy on and monitor the phone conversations of Americans.

The U.S. Supreme Court today essentially put the government's expanded terror surveillance program beyond legal challenge, tossing out a lawsuit filed by a group of lawyers, journalists, and civil rights groups who claimed they were improperly swept up in the law's reach.

By a 5-4 ruling, the court said the challengers couldn't show that they were actually harmed by the government's foreign terrorist surveillance program, set up during the George W. Bush administration to allow the monitoring of suspected terrorists overseas. Congress eventually approved the program, with some changes.

The issue in this case was what happens when targets of the program talk by phone or e-mail with people in the United States. The challengers claimed that because their jobs required them to talk with people overseas likely to be targeted by the program, they've had to change how they operate – traveling overseas to meet with potential clients and sources instead of talking to them by phone.

The American People are allowing our Government to setup all the right conditions to have their Liberties taken from them.  Their justification is that if you can't prove they're doing it, how it harms you, so you can't stop or challenge it!  Is this Liberty?

Less than two weeks ago, the Border Search Exception was announced.  This means that anyone within 100 miles of any U.S. border, including if you live within 100 miles of the Coastline, Officials now have the authority to conduct warrantless, suspicionsless searches of you and your electronic devices.  This includes computers, phones, emails, photographs, documents, text messages and ANYTHING else they want to view.  Again, No Warrant or even Suspicion is required!  It is estimated that 197.4 Million Americans live within this zone!  Kiss the 4th Amendment goodbye.  Everything is being justified for your "safety."


Americans need to WAKE UP and understand the almost daily, incremental loss of their Liberties.  History is replete with examples of how his this very same model has been used and abused by Governments to create oppressive, totalitarian regimes.

Benjamin Franklin said, "They who give up essential Liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
