Chicago police to stop dispatch for certain crimes

Chicago’s Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, the 4-star chief. He was quoted on a radio show last week saying he would train his officers to shoot licensed civilians with guns. Nice guy, eh?

CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department hopes to free up the equivalent of 44 officers a day by no longer dispatching cops for certain crimes, like burglaries and car thefts in which the offender is no longer at the scene and no one is in immediate danger. Police confirmed the change, which takes effect Sunday. Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told aldermen last year he was considering a move in that direction. The change is not related to plans by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and McCarthy to shift what they indicated was as many as 200 officers from administrative duties to beats so more officers can be assigned to teams that saturate crime hotspots, city spokesman Bill McCaffrey said.

What wonderful news for victims of crime! Not only do they feel vulnerable to the violent criminals, but now they have no way to ever achieve justice when being victimized by the other criminals. Dare we infringe upon the Civil Rights of the armed Criminal gang members, as it's far easier to infringe upon the Constitutionally protected rights of law abiding gun owners. Sounds reasonable to me. Now we have an unarmed, law abiding segment of society, an armed criminal element and an apparently impotent police department. How's that for "common sense" and justice?
