American Thinker: Floggings will continue until morale improves

Floggings will continue until morale improves
Rosslyn Smith  September 29, 2010

President Obama's carefully crafted get out the vote strategy may not be working as planned. New York Magazine has a short opinion piece titled The White House Will Scold Democrats Until They're Sufficiently Excited About Voting that concludes:

The growing realization that Democrats might just not vote on November 2nd is clearly starting to rattle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, who have embarked this week on an interesting new motivational strategy. No, not passing legislation that would actually please Democrats (and particularly the so-called "professional left"), like a repeal of the Bush tax cut for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans - scolding Democratic voters as if they were spoiled, ungrateful children.
At a fundraiser in New Hampshire yesterday, Biden reminded the "base constituency" to "stop whining and get out there and look at the alternatives." And in a Rolling Stone article released today, President Obama is described as walking back into a just-ended interview with Jann Wenner to deliver this message "with intensity and passion, repeatedly stabbing the air with his finger."
One closing remark that I want to make: It is inexcusable for any Democrat or progressive right now to stand on the sidelines in this midterm election. There may be complaints about us not having gotten certain things done, not fast enough, making certain legislative compromises. But right now, we've got a choice between a Republican Party that has moved to the right of George Bush and is looking to lock in the same policies that got us into these disasters in the first place, versus an administration that, with some admitted warts, has been the most successful administration in a generation in moving progressive agendas forward.
The idea that we've got a lack of enthusiasm in the Democratic base, that people are sitting on their hands complaining, is just irresponsible.

Now go to your room! And don't come out until you're excited about voting! And I better not hear that PlayStation or you can forget about a repeal of the Bush tax cuts ever!

Thomas Lifson adds:
John Podhoretz agrees:

Obama is talking to voters as though he is their boss, or their principal, or their father. He is not any of those things. He is their employee. And employers don't like it when their employees yell at them -- even if their employees have it right.

Patty Murray: More Proof That Congress Is Not Made Up Of The Best And Brightest

Patty Murray official photoImage via Wikipedia
Patty Murray: The Stupidest Person in America
Ann Coulter

No liberal has standing to call any Republican stupid as long as Patty Murray remains in the U.S. Senate.

Soon after being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992, Murray went on a radio show and said:
"When I was growing up, the big fear in my life was the nuclear war. I remember second- and third-grade teachers giving us skills to deal with it, if that big alarm goes off, which was 'Hide under your desk.' Would that do any good? I don't know. But as a child, that gives you a feeling there's something to do beyond panic. Today the biggest fear our kids live with is whether ... the kid beside them has a gun. We have to give them skills so they feel confident to deal with it."
The woman is not sure if ducking under a school desk would help in a nuclear attack. Not only that, but she wants to do something similarly pointless to help children "deal with" school shootings. Maybe imaginary bullet-proof vests!
With amazing understatement, one of Murray's Democratic colleagues in the state senate told The Seattle Times in 1992: "She just doesn't strike you as somebody who's been reading The New York Times every day for the past five years." I wonder when Katie Couric is going to ask Murray what newspapers she reads.

Dukakis Advising Democrats: Continues Tradition Of Elevating Proven Losers

Good News: Dukakis Advising Democrats

By Doug Powers • September 28, 2010 10:07 PM **Written by Doug Powers

“Mr. Dukakis, if the economy were raped and murdered, would you favor continuing to blame Bush?”

Former Massachusetts Governor Michael S. Dukakis, the failed 1988 presidential nominee, recently visited the White House and delivered his strategy for the midterm elections: pound key precincts across the country with the message that Republicans want to implement the same policies that led to the Great Recession.

Dukakis, who said in a telephone interview that he “popped in” to the White House while on a trip here several weeks ago, said he told aides to President Obama that Republicans “want to go back and do exactly what got us in this mess in the first place.”

“It seems to me there has to be a single message coming from Democrats, from the president on down,” Dukakis said. “We’ve got to pound that message as hard as can from now until November.”

Dukakis then had a $10 bill tucked into his lapel by a man in a tuxedo saying “tell the chef the strudel was exquisite.”

Hey, what political party wouldn’t take advice from a candidate who managed these kinds of results nationally:

Nobody had the heart to tell Dukakis that the Dems have decided to implement the Mondale Plan instead.

A Marine’s family needs your help

A Marine’s family needs your help

By Michelle Malkin • September 15, 2010 03:08 PM

Marine Corporal Brian Downard, 24, died of testicular cancer on Monday. He leaves behind a seven-year-old son, Jesse.
The American Legion reports that Downard’s mother, Brenda, who will now raise Jesse, needs help raising money for funeral and living expenses.

Funeral expenses are $14,942.55, a sum that Brenda simply does not have. Additionally, she now has Jesse to look after.
This Corporal of Marines looked after his men on two deployments. While deployed, they were his brothers and sisters, as were all of us who served. And now, his son, and his mother need help. As Brian was our brother, so too does that make Jesse our nephew. We need to ensure that this fallen Marine’s final wish is granted, to be laid to rest where he wanted, that he might use that as his line of departure for his next deployment to the Elysian Fields where his grandparents and fallen warriors await. For it is there that the grass is truly greener than anywhere else.
The American Legion is setting up a fundraiser for Brian. Give a little, give a lot, but give something if you can.

Here is the link for Credit Card donations.
100 percent of all funds will be given to Brenda for the funeral, and any other espenses along the way.
If you care to donate by check, you can send those to us at:
Brian Downard Memorial Fund

PO Box 361625

Indianapolis, IN 46236

Thank you to all who give, and to Brian, salute.

Please do whatever you can do to support the families of the troops who serve us. God bless Corporal Downard and the Downard family.

Gitmo Horrors Continue: Detainees Limited to One Ice Cream

By Doug Powers • September 26, 2010 10:21 PM **Written by Doug Powers

When the jack-booted era of Bush/Cheney came to a close I thought such human rights nightmares had ended, but apparently this kind of thing is still allowed in a so-called civilized society. Let’s just call it what it really is: Dairyboarding!
Detainees’ diets at Guantanamo Bay have been a controversial issue for some time and now the U.S. prison is said to be rationing ice cream.

The frozen dessert is allegedly being tightly measured, with only one ice cream allowed for each of its 147 detainees.

Journalist for The Miami Herald, Carol Rosenberg, photographed a refrigerator at Guantanamo, with two signs reading ‘DETAINEE FOOD ONLY’ and ‘Only 1 Ice Cream For each detainee!’

Even worse, Gitmo insiders tell me that if a detainee is thought to have information that could save lives, they’re threatened with being denied Magic Shell for up to a week. I’ve even heard that a US soldier once forced a detainee to watch as he tried to flush a pint of Chunky Monkey down a toilet, though I have yet to confirm that.

How must it makes detainees feel every time they see the US president, who not only promised to close Gitmo but to also declare life necessities such as ice cream to be a human right, publicly mocking those suffering under Gitmo’s frozen dessert limit:

Unbelievably cruel taunting.
This isn’t the Hope & Change I didn’t vote for.

Obamacare: Not Lovin' It! McDonald's May Drop Health Plan

Fallen archesImage via Wikipedia
Why are people always surprised when these "unintended consequences" pop up whenever ANY piece of legislation is passed - especially when the Speaker of the Houses states, in her always inarticualte way, "We need to pass the bill so we can find out what' in it."?  NEWS FLASH - Contrary to Media Spin - just because these people are in Government Office does not mean they are the best and brightest.  On the contrary, the best and brightest, in my opinion, are in the private sector actually creating stuff, not sitting in a committee chair being embarrassed by Stephen Colbert on national television.

McDonald's May Drop Health Plan

By JANET ADAMY

McDonald's Corp. has warned federal regulators that it could drop its health insurance plan for nearly 30,000 hourly restaurant workers unless regulators waive a new requirement of the U.S. health overhaul.

The move is one of the clearest indications that new rules may disrupt workers' health plans as the law ripples through the real world.

Trade groups representing restaurants and retailers say low-wage employers might halt their coverage if the government doesn't loosen a requirement for "mini-med" plans, which offer limited benefits to some 1.4 million Americans.

The requirement concerns the percentage of premiums that must be spent on benefits.

While many restaurants don't offer health coverage, McDonald's provides mini-med plans for workers at 10,500 U.S. locations, most of them franchised. A single worker can pay $14 a week for a plan that caps annual benefits at $2,000, or about $32 a week to get coverage up to $10,000 a year.

Last week, a senior McDonald's official informed the Department of Health and Human Services that the restaurant chain's insurer won't meet a 2011 requirement to spend at least 80% to 85% of its premium revenue on medical care.

McDonald's and trade groups say the percentage, called a medical loss ratio, is unrealistic for mini-med plans because of high administrative costs owing to frequent worker turnover, combined with relatively low spending on claims.

Democrats who drafted the health law wanted the requirement to prevent insurers from spending too much on executive salaries, marketing and other costs that they said don't directly help patients.

McDonald's move is the latest indication of possible unintended consequences from the health overhaul. Dozens of companies have taken charges against earnings—totaling more than $1 billion—over a tax change in prescription-drug benefits for retirees.

Iowa Businessman Questioning Obama Has Mic Cut-Off

Giving Bam the business

Iowa man: Axing Bush cuts a job killer

By CHARLES HURT, Bureau Chief
WASHINGTON -- Trying to sell his economic record in Iowa yesterday, President Obama got an earful from a successful businessman who pleaded with him not to raise taxes.

"One of the things that concerns me is the repeal of the Bush tax cuts," said David Greenspon, referring to Democratic plans to raise taxes on individuals earning more than $200,000 a year and on families and certain businesses earning more than $250,000.

"The repeal -- I don't care if it is 5 percent -- that's 5 percent that would create a job," he told Obama during a meeting with about 70 people in a couple's back yard in Des Moines.

"Five percent on millions of dollars of profit creates many jobs . . . As the government gets more and more involved in business and more and more involved in taxes, what you're finding is you're strangling those job-creation vehicles."

Before Greenspon could complete his question, his microphone was cut off and taken out of his hand.

This President, like most progressives, has no clue about what it takes to run a business, make payroll, turn a profit, etc.  He's frustrated with business owners like this because he can't relate to the situation that millions of others just like him are now in.  Less than 10% of his administration and advisers have any private sector experience.  So they, like he, are just as flummoxed when they hear criticism of their economic plan, because to them it works on paper.  It reminds me of the Rodney Dangerfield movie "Back To School" when his professor is telling the class how to come up with a business plan.  Rodneys' character, who has real world experience, proceeds to point out where the professor, whose only 'experience' is in the halls of academe, is wrong. The Professor chastises Dangerfield's character, telling him essentially that that isn't what the textbooks say.  The Professor then turns back to the classroom, asking "What shall we call our business", at which point Dangerfield says, "How 'bout Fantasyland!" The analogy is that the President and his advisers, most of whom have now left the administration, are essentially the professor.  They've spent years in the halls and staff rooms of Ivy League schools talking about how business works, but never actually running one. Yet, when an actual businessman tells them how it works in the real world, they don't like it, and choose instead to attack the messenger, or cut the power to his microphone, like a child sticking fingers in the ears and going "la, la, la, la. Can't hear you!"

Close, But No Cigar! - Dinesh D'Souza Analysis of Barack Hussein Obama: Forbes Magazine

An interesting take by Dinesh D'Souza. He contradicts himself in several spots regarding the messiah's political ideology.  BHO is at best a socialist.  He embraces Keynesian economics, which is rooted in a Marxist economic model. He claims that Obama is driven by the "Dreams From My Father", who was an avowed Marxist.  BHO has clained that he was "drawn" to the Marxist elements in college. There are certainly a LOT of questions about Barack Obama that need to be answered.  However, he has pretty much answered what his economic ideology is by his actions and policies up to this point.
Brian Johnson

How Obama Thinks

Dinesh D'Souza, 09.09.10, 05:40 PM EDT
Forbes Magazine dated September 27, 2010

The President isn't exactly a socialist. So what's driving his hostility to private enterprise? Look to his roots.

Barack Obama is the most antibusiness president in a generation, perhaps in American history. Thanks to him the era of big government is back. Obama runs up taxpayer debt not in the billions but in the trillions. He has expanded the federal government's control over home mortgages, investment banking, health care, autos and energy. The Weekly Standard summarizes Obama's approach as omnipotence at home, impotence abroad.

President's actions are so bizarre that they mystify his critics and supporters alike. Consider this headline from the Aug. 18, 2009 issue of the Wall Street Journal: "Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling." Did you read that correctly? You did. The Administration supports offshore drilling--but drilling off the shores of Brazil. With Obama's backing, the U.S. Export-Import Bank offered $2 billion in loans and guarantees to Brazil's state-owned oil company Petrobras to finance exploration in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro--not so the oil ends up in the U.S. He is funding Brazilian exploration so that the oil can stay in Brazil.

More strange behavior: Obama's June 15, 2010 speech in response to the Gulf oil spill focused not on cleanup strategies but rather on the fact that Americans "consume more than 20% of the world's oil but have less than 2% of the world's resources." Obama railed on about "America's century-long addiction to fossil fuels." What does any of this have to do with the oil spill? Would the calamity have been less of a problem if America consumed a mere 10% of the world's resources?

The oddities go on and on. Obama's Administration has declared that even banks that want to repay their bailout money may be refused permission to do so. Only after the Obama team cleared a bank through the Fed's "stress test" was it eligible to give taxpayers their money back. Even then, declared Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, the Administration might force banks to keep the money.

The President continues to push for stimulus even though hundreds of billions of dollars in such funds seem to have done little. The unemployment rate when Obama took office in January 2009 was 7.7%; now it is 9.5%. Yet he wants to spend even more and is determined to foist the entire bill on Americans making $250,000 a year or more. The rich, Obama insists, aren't paying their "fair share." This by itself seems odd given that the top 1% of Americans pay 40% of all federal income taxes; the next 9% of income earners pay another 30%. So the top 10% pays 70% of the taxes; the bottom 40% pays close to nothing. This does indeed seem unfair--to the rich.

Obama's foreign policy is no less strange. He supports a $100 million mosque scheduled to be built near the site where terrorists in the name of Islam brought down the World Trade Center. Obama's rationale, that "our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable," seems utterly irrelevant to the issue of why the proposed Cordoba House should be constructed at Ground Zero.

Recently the London Times reported that the Obama Administration supported the conditional release of Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the Lockerbie bomber convicted in connection with the deaths of 270 people, mostly Americans. This was an eye-opener because when Scotland released Megrahi from prison and sent him home to Libya in August 2009, the Obama Administration publicly and appropriately complained. The Times, however, obtained a letter the Obama Administration sent to Scotland a week before the event in which it said that releasing Megrahi on "compassionate grounds" was acceptable as long as he was kept in Scotland and would be "far preferable" to sending him back to Libya. Scottish officials interpreted this to mean that U.S. objections to Megrahi's release were "half-hearted." They released him to his home country, where he lives today as a free man.

One more anomaly: A few months ago nasa Chief Charles Bolden announced that from now on the primary mission of America's space agency would be to improve relations with the Muslim world. Come again? Bolden said he got the word directly from the President. "He wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and math and engineering." Bolden added that the International Space Station was a model for nasa's future, since it was not just a U.S. operation but included the Russians and the Chinese. Obama's redirection of the agency caused consternation among former astronauts like Neil Armstrong and John Glenn, and even among the President's supporters: Most people think of nasa's job as one of landing on the moon and Mars and exploring other faraway destinations. Sure, we are for Islamic self-esteem, but what on earth was Obama up to here?

Theories abound to explain the President's goals and actions. Critics in the business community--including some Obama voters who now have buyer's remorse--tend to focus on two main themes. The first is that Obama is clueless about business. The second is that Obama is a socialist--not an out-and-out Marxist, but something of a European-style socialist, with a penchant for leveling and government redistribution.

Top 10 Unfinished Business Left By Pelosi and Reid

The Democrats are so scared of losing control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections, that they are packing up and leaving D.C. to spend more time on the campaign trail.

The American people have an absentee Congress, whose leaders choose politics over getting work done. Pelosi and Reid promised much would be accomplished this year, but ended with not even completing the major spending and tax legislation needed to help the faltering economy.

Attack Ad Backfires Big Time: Webster raises off Grayson attack

Attack Ad Backfires Big Time: Webster raises off Grayson attack
By ALEXANDER BURNS
9/29/10 6:39 AM EDT

Former Florida state Sen. Dan Webster isn’t just pushing back on an attack ad from Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson labeling him “Taliban Dan” – he’s also raising money online at a quick clip.

Webster’s website now features a front-page debunking of Grayson’s ad, which edited a clip of Webster urging religious conservatives, “Don’t pick the ones [Bible verses] that say, ‘She should submit to me,’” to make it look like he just said: “She should submit to me.”

The Republican sent out an appeal Tuesday declaring Grayson’s ad “ludicrous and false” – and pulled in about $70,000 online as of midnight. That’s a big sum for a candidate who entered the race late and had $105,000 on hand as of Aug. 4.

E.J. Dionne, the Apostle of Liberal Conventional Wisdom, Continues to Dwell in a Fantasy Land

I've been reading E.J. Dionne for years, and aside from driving me nuts with his apparent total disconnect from reality outside The Beltway, his articles have kept me amused and my cat's litter box clean.  Mr. Opelka's insight into the mind of E.J. Dionne and his less than truthful reporting to buttress his points is spot-on.

E.J. Dionne, the Apostle of Liberal Conventional Wisdom, Continues to Dwell in a Fantasy Land

Posted by Gregg Opelka Sep 29th 2010 at 7:37 am in Tea Parties, Washington Post

The Washington Post’s E.J. Dionne has just given us a new line of attack on the Tea Party: now the movement is just a giant scam out to hoodwink the American public.
Is the tea party one of the most successful scams in American political history?… the tea party constitutes a sliver of opinion on the extreme end of politics receiving attention out of all proportion with its numbers. …The tea party may be pulling a fast one on the country and the media.

The only one trying to pull a fast one here is Dionne—who’s playing fast and loose with the facts. More about that shortly. But first, a question: “What makes a liberal deny reality?” There can be only two answers.

Either the liberal is so blinded by ideology that he simply cannot see the truth, or the liberal’s unwillingness to recognize painful reality compels him to try to minimize it. Paul Krugman falls into the first category. A Keynesian crackhead from his salad days, Krugman believes the first stimulus was too small.

Dionne falls into the second. He can’t accept the inescapable truth that the Tea Party is here to stay. And so, Dionne does what most ideologically strait-jacketed liberals do: he minimizes. By the way, throughout his article, note how Dionne intentionally spells the movement in lower case (“tea party”), literally diminishing the group by not granting it upper case status. In comparison,“Republican” and “Democrat” get full capital letter respect in Dionne’s piece. Anyway, here’s E.J.’s “proof” that the Tea Party is fringe.

Last April, a New York Times/CBS News poll found that 18 percent of Americans identified themselves as supporters of the tea party movement, but slightly less than a fifth of these sympathizers said they had actually attended a tea party rally or meeting. That means just over 3 percent of Americans can be characterized as tea party activists. A more recent poll by Democracy Corps, just before Labor Day, found that 6 percent of voters said they had attended a tea party rally or meeting.

Dionne makes much of the fact that only 3% of the American public had attended a Tea Party rally or donated to a Tea Party organization. He conveniently fails to point out that the now stale NYT/CBS poll, published April 14, was taken well before the first wave of Tea Party rallies, which occurred in hundreds of cities all around the country on April 15th and were attended in toto by hundreds of thousands of supporters.

Waiting for superman Trailer 2010 HD1080p

‘Waiting For Superman’ Review: A Masterpiece of Moral Clarity

by John Nolte

Waiting for ‘Superman’” is not only the most important documentary made in many a year but it might also help to restore a little of your faith in humanity, and I’m not even talking about the movie itself, which I’ll get to in a bit. I’m talking about its creator Davis Guggenheim, best known for directing and winning the Oscar for Al Gore’s alarmist global warming screed “An Inconvenient Truth.” In an era when, in order to hold on to power and take control of our lives, the Left tells Big Lies just as quickly as they can make them up, along comes Guggenheim, an acknowledged pro-union liberal, to take on the most powerful, and in my opinion destructive, special interest group in America: the national teachers union. http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/jjmnolte/2010/09/28/waiting-for-superman-review-a-masterpiece-of-moral-clarity/

Soros Unmasked

George Soros - World Economic Forum Annual Mee...Image by World Economic Forum via Flickr
Soros Unmasked

Jennifer Rubin - 09.27.2010 - 8:46 AM

We have learned that J Street is not the grassroots group it has made itself out to be; rather, it is but one anti-Israel organization that George Soros had founded and funded. It isn’t simply $750,000 for J Street to advance its (or rather, Soros’s) Israel-bashing agenda. There is also Human Rights Watch.
As many others have documented, Human Rights Watch is another exercise in false advertising. Noah Pollak has adeptly analyzed HRW’s anti-Israel agenda, which has featured infamous figures like Joe Stork. Who is HRW’s sugar daddy? None other than George Soros – to the tune of $100 million.
Then there is MoveOn.org, the leftist group that ran the infamous “General Betray-us” ads and sought to move the Democratic Party and the country left. Who was the founder and financier of MoveOn.org? Well, it wasn’t netroots sending in pennies and dimes. It was Soros, who fed the group $5 million. With his pocket change ($20,000), he also contributed to the legal defense fund for terrorist’s lawyer Lynne Stewart.
The pattern is clear here: where there is a well-funded group seeking to undermine the U.S.-Israel relationship, delegitimize Israel, or push for America’s retreat from the world, it’s a good bet Soros is behind it. HRW and J Street should be seen in that light — the facade for a billionaire whose animosity toward Israel is well documented and who figuratively and literally bets against the West. (He bragged in 1992 that he broke the Bank of England by selling short $10 billion in British pound sterling.) A pro-Israel activist sums up (I have provided links for reference purposes):
Jeremy Ben Ami says he wants to change the meaning of “pro-Israel,” and now this week we hear from him what we’ve suspected all along: that J Street is “with the values and principles” of George Soros, and we all know what that means when it comes to Israel. His $100m gift to Human Rights Watch after their founder denounces them in the New York Times as obsessed with Israel and having lost all moral basis, their top military analyst is outed as an avid collector of Nazi memorabilia, and the head of their Middle East division, who has a poster in her office for a movie praising suicide bombing, is caught with her hand in the Saudi cookie jar begging for money to beat up on Israel, is a vivid reminder of who J Street’s mentor is.

Is CSI Anti-Tea Party?

Did CBS Use Justin Bieber to Paint Tea Party as Violent, Anti-Government Extremists?

I watched this episode and it definitely had a skewed, liberal view of what the left believes the Tea Party movement to be. Not surprising that Hollywood thinks this way. Unfortunately, other non-engaged citizens form their opinions based on this type of tripe, and what the Katie Courics of the world feed them. An interesting episode, but it left a bad taste in my mouth, wondering if there are going to be more episodes with propogsanda-like story lines.

Walter Williams: When profiling isn't racist

Walter E. Williams uses common sense to obliterate the stigma attached to the word "Profiling".  Profiling, when statistically based, is smart.  In certain situations, not Profiling is not only stupid, it is dangerous.

When profiling isn't racist

By: Walter Williams Examiner Columnist August 5, 2010

We live in a world of imperfect and costly information, and people seek to economize on information costs in a variety of ways. If we don't take that fact into account, we risk misidentifying and confusing one type of human behavior with another. Let's look at it.
Pima Indians of Arizona have the world's highest diabetes rates. With knowledge that his patient is a Pima Indian, it would probably be a best practice for a physician to order more thorough blood glucose tests to screen for diabetes.
Prostate cancer is nearly twice as common among black men as white men. It would also be a best practice for a physician to be attentive to -- even risk false positive PSAs -- prostate cancer among his black patients.
What about physicians who order routine mammograms for their 40-year and older female patients but not their male patients? The American Cancer Society predicts that about 400 men will die of breast cancer this year.
Because of a correlation between race, sex and disease, the physician is using a cheap-to-observe characteristic, such as race or sex, as an estimate for a more costly-to-observe characteristic, the presence of a disease. The physician is practicing both race and sex profiling.
Does that make the physician a racist or sexist? Should he be brought up on charges of racial discrimination because he's guessing that his black patients are more likely to suffer from prostate cancer?

Stossel: Progressives Pushing For Even Larger Government

John Stossel hits the nail on the head in this piece.  Unfortunately, he exposes something that I know to be true, and which is going to take years, maybe decades to turn around.  That is the weaning of people, including those in the Tea Parties who have become so accustomed to government subsidies, and other "entitlements" such as Medicare, that slowingthe growth of government is going to be slow and difficult.
A sobering thought is contained in the following quote from an article "This is the Hard Core of Freedom" by Elmer T. Peterson in The Daily Oklahoman (9 December 1951):
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy."

John Stossel: Progressives are pushing for even larger government

For most of the life of America, and when it grew fastest, government spent just a few hundred dollars per person. Today, the federal government alone spends $10,000. Politicians talk about cuts, but the cuts rarely happen. The political class always needs more.

I see the pressure. All day, Congress listens to people who say they need and deserve help.

The cost of any one program per taxpayer is small, but the benefits are concentrated on well-organized interest groups. It's tough for a weak politician to say no.

But maybe things are changing. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., believes that "more and more people in America are beginning to wake up to the fact that this thing is coming unglued."

I asked Ryan why his colleagues say it's OK to spend more. Are they just stupid? Don't they care? Or are they pandering for votes?

"Pandering could be a part of it," he said. "But ... they believe that the government should be far larger." They are taught that by the progressives who rule academia, like Columbia University professor Marc Lamont Hill.

Is Mark Levin Psychic or Just That Good?

An article by Mark Levin, written and posted in National Review's "The Corner in 2008.
The Obama Temptation

October 25, 2008 9:29 P.M. By Mark R. Levin

I’ve been thinking this for a while so I might as well air it here. I honestly never thought we’d see such a thing in our country – not yet anyway – but I sense what’s occurring in this election is a recklessness and abandonment of rationality that has preceded the voluntary surrender of liberty and security in other places. I can’t help but observe that even some conservatives are caught in the moment as their attempts at explaining their support for Barack Obama are unpersuasive and even illogical. And the pull appears to be rather strong. Ken Adelman, Doug Kmiec, and others, reach for the usual platitudes in explaining themselves but are utterly incoherent. Even non-conservatives with significant public policy and real world experiences, such as Colin Powell and Charles Fried, find Obama alluring but can’t explain themselves in an intelligent way.

There is a cult-like atmosphere around Barack Obama, which his campaign has carefully and successfully fabricated, which concerns me. The messiah complex. Fainting audience members at rallies. Special Obama flags and an Obama presidential seal. A graphic with the portrayal of the globe and Obama’s name on it, which adorns everything from Obama’s plane to his street literature. Young school children singing songs praising Obama. Teenagers wearing camouflage outfits and marching in military order chanting Obama’s name and the professions he is going to open to them. An Obama world tour, culminating in a speech in Berlin where Obama proclaims we are all citizens of the world. I dare say, this is ominous stuff.

The Last Best Hope - NOVEMBER IS COMING!!

"This is the issue of this election. Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American Revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves." Washington elites have awakened a sleeping giant. Let us preserve the last best hope of man on earth. November is coming. God help those who hope to take that last step into a thousand years of darkness. This is the new revolution. Take America BACK.

1st Amendment Under Assault - And so is the guy in the video

Man Brutally Assaulted While Filming Former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber Event

This is only one of many of these types of incidents where police or "security" are infringing on people video taping or peacefully protesting before being arrested , or as in this case, assaulted. Though the Church is private, this was a public event where the public was invited.. I don't know if these men were members of this church,, but I find it ironic that they are punching and assaulting a man in a house of worship. Be vigilant.

J Street's Half-Truths and Non-Truths About Its Funding

Follow-up to an earlier post by" Chris Good - Chris Good is a staff editor at TheAtlantic.com, where he writes for the Politics channel. He has previously reported and blogged for The Hill newspaper.

Earlier today, I wrote a post about J Street's funding. There is more to the story.

A set of half-truths, non-truths and ambiguities from J Street lead a reasonable person to conclude that the group tried to conceal that George Soros has been one of its largest donors for years, and to falsely claim that it had been "open" about those donations over the past three years. J Street also seemed to distort the fact that it received a large contribution from a donor in Hong Kong. Some of this happened on the phone with me earlier today.

J Street called me up this morning and disclosed that it had successfully grown its fundraising since forming in 2007 and that Soros and his family have given the group $250,000 a year over the past three years, a fact that was in the process of being verified and reported by The Washington Times' Eli Lake

Cass Sunstein - Most Conservatives view of the Constitution Requires a T...

http://t.co/vMmKpK6 - Sunstein explains that most Conservatives use a Time Machine to read and understand the Constitution today. In other words he would infer that the Constitution as it was written is no longer effective today.
Cass Sunstein is completely incoherent. The Constitution is a set of ageless Principles. You can't have everybody interpreting it their own way. You would have anarchy. It is imperative that when a judge looks to the Constitution that he attempts to determine what the founders meant, through the words themselves, or through other writings in which they addressed similar issues or circumstances. To find that which isn't there by making up such crap as "emanations and penumbras" is ignoring the intent of the Constitution and its principles. If the Constitution does not address an issue, by definition, jurisdiction goes back to the states. The Supreme Court is obligated NOT to rule on it. The kind of judicial activism advocated by Cass Sunstein and his ilk threatens the very foundations upon which this great country is founded. His ideas should be rejected outright.

Respected? Swiss Politician Laughing "At" Obama

http://www.DailyRushbo.com Hans-Rudolf Merz Comments On A Phone Call From Obama About "Global Climate Disruption" And Hans-Rudolf Merz Can't Stop Laughing

Is this indicative of how other world leaders view President Obama? Sadly, this may be more accurate than we would hope to believe.

Chuck Schumer wants to"explore" Changing the Principles of the Constitution!!

Glenn Beck uncovers secret audio tape of Senator Chuck Schumer at at "progressive meeting" in DC..Schumer expresses interest in changing principles in the Constitution that would allow them to get around the 2/3 majority rule. Schumer says "that's something we want to explore"
Anyone that thinks ,after hearing this, that we don't have a government that is permeated with bunch of far-left statists has their head buried in the sand. People like Schumer, Reid, Pelosi, and yes Obama, do not "like" the way our Constitution is currently written. To them, it tells them what they can't do, therefore it stands in the way of their progressive goals, which is their own aspirations of power and creating a socialist utopia. This is why the left must be defeated!

Alan Grayson: The Most Despicable Man In Congress

Alan Grayson: The Most Despicable Man In Congress

Alan Grayson, if not the most unethical, sleazy member in Congress in my lifetime, certainly has the corner on the market in this Congress.  He has proven time and again, through his completely outrageous statements, and outright lies, that he is a horrible excuse for a human being.  He is a punk, a media whore, and a bully. I find it hard to believe that he represents the thoughts or beliefs of the majority of those in his district of central Florida.  If he does, then that is just to depressing to think about.  Below I am going to attempt to make my case that Alan Grayson is the most despicable person in Congress, using his own words.  You decide if  my instincts are right.

From FactCheck.orgWe thought Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida reached a low point when he falsely accused his opponent of being a draft dodger during the Vietnam War, and of not loving his country. But now Grayson has lowered the bar even further. He’s using edited video to make his rival appear to be saying the opposite of what he really said.
Quite possibly, the most disgusting political ad ever released, just based on the complete lie that it perpetrates. Grayson accuses his opponent Dan Webster of being like the Taliban, showing a clip of Webster saying that women should "submit" to their husbands:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWdyf9eSkqQ

Here is the full context of the remark.

"So, write a journal. Second, find a verse. I have a verse for my wife, I have verses for my wife. Don’t pick the ones that say, ‘She should submit to me.’ That’s in the Bible, but pick the ones that you’re supposed to do. So instead, ‘love your wife, even as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for it’ as opposed to ‘wives submit to your own husbands.’ She can pray that, if she wants to, but don’t you pray it"

Now here is the "unedited" video of what Webster actually said: http://www.theblaze.com/blog/2010/09/28/alan-grayson-is-more-awful-than-we-thought-video/

Grayson and the false draft-dodger ad mentioned by FactCheck.org above: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9M2I_1VynQ

Here he is on "Hardball" with Chris Matthews saying the "Blood drips from Dick Cheney's teeth and some other oh so clever repartee'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQh_kmhbPL4

This is Grayson discussing the GOP plan for health care. "Part one, don't get sick. Part two, if you do get sick... Part three, die quickly."  I guess this is what Grayson thinks is good comedy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-usmvYOPfco

Grayson "apologizing to the dead" during the Health Care debate. He holds up a study claiming that 44,000 people a year die due to lack of health care, which is a straw man argument. Any man woman or child has to be treated, by law, if they go to a hospital in this country, whether they have insurance or not.  His argument is flawed, and so is his so-called apology.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCAPX0RKwDU

This is but a few of the outrageous and irresponsible things that this guy says.  There are numerous others that you can find on YouTube and elsewhere.  This guy is a disgrace, and should not be in any elected office.  He lowers the level of discourse to its most base, disgusting level.  The people of central Florida deserve better. Much better.
