Happy Holidays? Black Friday Begins With Riots

Why "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas"?  Watching the scene of the "Black Friday" sales crowd in a Wal-Mart in Moultrie, Georgia, there is nothing about this mob which is remotely related to the "spirit" of what this holiday is meant to symbolize.
Christmas in the United States has become, for many, nothing more than a pagan ritual of exchanging gifts and one-upsmanship.  A chance for people to brag of that great "deal" they got, or whether they were able to get the latest and greatest game console, iPhone, or toy for their kid. A chance to be the "cool" mom or dad for that one day of the year.  Maybe for some, it's a pathetic attempt to "make it up" to their kids for the piss-poor job of parenting they've done the other 364 days of the year.
The scenes that we see play out every year on news programming are no longer shocking.  They are just another part of the yearly ritual. They have become no different than the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Faux shock at truly asinine behavior by people who are willing to sacrifice a bit of their humanity, dignity, and safety on this one day, for that one big score, all in the supposed "spirit" of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Merry Christmas everybody!
