Game On? New Poll Shows Santorum Beats Obama Head-To-Head

Posted by Brian
While the media and GOP establishment have been telling us for months that Mitt Romney is the only one who can beat Barack Obama in November, a new poll shows that Rick Santorum is the only GOP candidate who currently beats Obama in a matchup. Could it be that voters are taking another look at Santorum, who has delivered the most consistently conservative message of the four remaining GOP candidates, and that he may finally be gaining some traction? Current polls also show Santorum with a slight lead over Romney in Minnesota, and that Missouri may be favorable for him as well.  Romney must be feeling the pressure, as he has begun the type of attacks that he launched against Newt Gingrich. While Romney's image is that of a smiling, nice guy who is above all of the pettiness, he is vicious in campaigns. He made no friends in the 2008 primaries, and his relationship with Gingrich is toxic, at best. Santorum would do well to prepare for the same kind of attacks, and have some powder in the barrel when the inevitable barrage of political and personal attacks come.
The way things are shaking out, this primary season may go all the way to the convention, with no clear-cut GOP winner. Let the fun begin!

By Fred Lucas February 6, 2012

(CNSNews.com) – Just ahead of three more Republican nominating contests, a new poll -- a snapshot in time -- shows former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum leading President Barack Obama in a one-on-one matchup.
The Rasmussen Reports Daily Presidential Tracking Poll for one day only -- Feb. 5. -- marks the first time Santorum has held a lead over Obama in potential matchups.
It’s a small lead for Santorum -- 1 percentage point, giving him a 45-44 percent edge over Obama.
