Useful Idiot Alert: Jimmy Carter - Muslim Brotherhood "nothing to be afraid of."

Posted by Brian
Former President Jimmy Carter, apparently feeling ignored, stepped into the spotlight to let everybody know the they have nothing to fear from the Muslim Brotherhood. Carter, explaining that Anwar Sadat was one of the finest men he ever met, incomprehensibly forgets that it was the Muslim Brotherhood that assasinated(!) Sadat.  Does someone need to explain to Carter that this was the very reason that Hosni Mubarak outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood as a political entity in Egypt?  I find it incomprehensible that anybody looks to Jimmy Carter as an authority on anything in the Middle East.  This is the man that hastened the overthrow of the Shah of Iran and compared the Ayatollah Khomeini to Ghandi, for Christ's sake!  That worked out really well.  Useful idiots come in all forms.  Some are even former Presidents.

Carter: Muslim Brotherhood nothing to fear
Former President Jimmy Carter told an Austin audience Tuesday evening that he expects Egypt to hold elections in September and that he doesn't worry about the Muslim Brotherhood wielding inordinate influence.

"I've known members of the Muslim Brotherhood," he told an audience at the Lyndon B. Johnson Library. "They're not anything to be afraid of."

The 39th president and Nobel Prize winner said he believes the Muslim Brotherhood is likely to form a political party, but polls suggest their support is only about 15 percent. "There's no possibility at all that they would prevail," he said. He said he expects to see "a secular, non-religious government."
