Bill Maher, On the Tonight Show last night, is asked to opine about the shooting down is Arizona. He proceeds to go on a conservative bashing free-for-all, calling the NRA the "Assassins Lobby" and that they should "stop the bulls**t about the 2nd Amendment and the Constitution". He also states that the Conservative creed is "Wouldn't it be fun to kill the people we disagree with". Upon this completely absurd statement, there was some grumbling from the studio audience. He then insults the audience, askng them, "Do you read?' Maher then uses the following as examples to prove his case: Sarah Palin - Don't Retreat. Reload. Michelle Bachman - "She wants Minnesotans armed and dangerous". Allen West - "He wants his opponent afraid to leave the house". He then says, "Left-wingers don't talk that way". Well, apparently Mr. Maher doesn't read (or watch television), either.
Otherwise he would have known of these statements from those on the left:
CHRIS MATTHEWS: You guys see Live and Let Die, the great Bond film with Yaphet Kotto as the bad guy, Mr. Big? In the end they jam a big CO2 pellet in his face and he blew up. I have to tell you, Rush Limbaugh is looking more and more like Mr. Big, and at some point somebody's going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and he's going to explode like a giant blimp. That day may come. Not yet. But we'll be there to watch. I think he's Mr. Big, I think Yaphet Kotto. Are you watching, Rush?
ED SCHULTZ: “You’re damn right, Dick Cheney's heart's a political football, We ought to rip it out and kick it around and stuff it back in him."
ROBERT MENENDEZ: On working with Republicans - "Do you allow yourself to be held hostage, and get something done for the sake of getting something done, when in fact it may be perverse in its ultimate result. It's almost like a question of, Do you negotiate with terrorists?"
NANCY PELOSI: At a San Francisco Anti-War Forum, Encouraging shouters and disrupters - "When Franklin Roosevelt died and I draw great inspiration from him because he was a disruptor, and I'm a fan of disrupters...people who make a change."
PAUL KANJORSKI: "That Scott down there that's running for governor of Florida," Mr. Kanjorski said. "Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him. He stole billions of dollars from the United States government and he's running for governor of Florida. He's a millionaire and a billionaire. He's no hero. He's a damn crook. It's just we don't prosecute big crooks."
BARACK OBAMA: I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face!
These are but a few quotes of the "tolerant" left.
Don't misunderstand, there are those on the right who go beyond the pale, but for Maher to say the the right in this country has some kind of monopoly on "inflammatory rhetoric" is ridiculous on its face. For that matter, who are some of the nuts who have assassinated, or attempted to assassinate government officials in our country?
Jared Loughner - Attempted - Rep. Gabrielle Giffords - Described by friends as a"pot-smoking hippie who leans to the left".
Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme - Attempted - President Gerald Ford - Former Manson Family member with leftist political ties.
John Hinkley - Attempted - President Ronald Reagan -Raised in a conservative family, but later joined the left-wing National Socialist Party of America.
Sirhan Sirhan - Assassin - Robert F. Kennedy - Jordanian, anti-semitic, anti-Israel. Allegedly shot Kennedy due to his pro-Israel stance
Lee Harvey Oswald - Assassin - President John F. Kennedy -Left-wing communist who defected to the Soviet Union in 1959, before returning to the U.S.
Leon Czolgosz - Assassin - President William McKinley - Leftist who was influenced by anarchists such as Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman.
John Wilkes Booth - Assassin - Abraham Lincoln - Confederate sympathizer, opposed to abolition of slavery and extending voting rights to recently emancipated slaves.
Bill Maher, who attempts to project himself as the smartest guy in the room, is an intellectual lightweight. He is intelligent, and has the vocabulary to prove it. But has ability to reason and think critically leave much to be desired. Like most liberals, he reacts emotionally which short-circuits his ability to think rationally. Big words and denigrating your opponent doesn't make you smart. It makes you annoying, and in the end, inconsequential.
