Dems: Don't Remind Anyone That DADT was a Democrat Policy

Dem Hypocrisy On DADT

Democrats, hoping to cash in on repeal of DADT, are claiming victory in what they call a "discriminatory policy."  The problem is they are deflecting from their own complicity in the legislation, passed in 1994 and signed by President Bill Clinton. The Bill, H.R. 2401, who's sponsor was Democrat Ron Dellums, had buried in Sec. 654, the policy concerning homosexuals in the military. Democrat started backing away almost immediately after passage, as the unpopularity of the policy became apparent. The hypocrisy of the Democrats in this is legion. Many of those who have been such vocal critics, and have even blamed Republicans for the policy (Democrats held both the Senate and the House in 1994, as well as the Presidency) voted FOR the policy.  Republicans, obviously voted for DADT, but have not been hypocritical in their involvement. The list of Democrats who voted for the DADT is extensive.  Some of the more prominent Senate Democrats who voted Yea:
Biden (D-DE), Yea Feinstein (D-CA), Harkin (D-IA), Kerry (D-MA), Leahy (D-VT), Levin (D-MI), Lieberman (D-CT), Mikulski (D-MD), Murray (D-WA), Reid (D-NV), Rockefeller (D-WV). See Full Senate List
In the House of Representatives, prominent democrats who voted "Aye" were as follows:
Pelosi, Nancy [D], Fazio, Victor [D], Dellums, Ronald [D], Stark, Fortney [D], Waxman, Henry [D], Waters, Maxine [D], DeLauro, Rosa [D], Durbin, Richard [D], Hoyer, Steny [D], Frank, Barney [D], Schumer, Charles [D], Clyburn, James [D]Full House Of Representatives List
Going through the list exposes the abject hypocrisy on this matter.  The Democrats, especially in the House, voted almost in lock-step for DADT.  To now claim that they are reversing years of GOP discrimination in regards to gays in the military is the height of chutzpa.  After all, it was Democrats, many who are still in Congress, who perpetrated this "discriminatory policy" against gays.  Like Blacks and Hispanics, gays are simply another group to be taken advantage of by the Democrats, bled of their money, and used for their own political gain.  -  Brian
