And So It Begins! Boehner Is First To Blink On Raising Taxes

Posted by Brian

Hang on to your wallets!  Just hours after stating that "voters said 'no' to raising taxes", the perma-tanned and limp-wristed Speaker of the House, John Boehner, is indicating that he would go along with raising taxes "under the right conditions".  And what will those "conditions" be Speaker Boehner?   Better treatment by the press? Free tanning sessions? Maybe Obama will say "please".
Unfortunately, now that some godd conservatives were defeated yesterday (Allen West and Mia Love), the number of principled conservatives in the House has decreased, and we will continue to have a rudderless leadership team to fight a vile and vicious Democrat machine. You can say whatever you want about Nancy Pelosy, Steny Hoyer, and the others on the Democrat side, the fact is, they refuse to veer from their message and agenda. Boehner, on the other hand, is the battered wife who perpetually forgives his batterer, only to go back to get the crap beat out of himself again.
God help us!

Boehner Would Accept New Revenue Under ‘Right Conditions’
By Roxana Tiron and Richard Rubin - Nov 7, 2012 12:31 PM PT

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner said Republicans would be willing to accept new tax revenue to reduce the nation’s budget deficit if it’s accompanied by a tax overhaul and changes to entitlement programs.

Speaking in Washington a day after President Barack Obama’s re-election, Boehner of Ohio said all sides are “closer than many think” to being able to revise the tax code.

Sen. Lugar: Tea Party The Reason That GOP Has Minority In Senate

Posted by Brian

Sen. Lugar is illustrative of the entrenched mindset in Washington that only 'Party approved' candidates need apply for national office. Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union with Candy Crowley", Sen. Lugar (R-IN) blames the Tea Party for the GOP minority in the Senate.  He ignores the fact that it was the establishment Republicans who withheld support from numerous candidates who were in striking distance of Democrat incumbents in the 2010 midterm elections - most notably, Sharon Angle, who had a legitimate shot at upending Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada, and Christine O'Donnell in Delaware who was knee-capped by Karl Rove on the night she won the GOP primary in that state. Both of those candidates were virtually ignored by the RNC financially, and were in many cases, especially O'Donnell, viciously attacked by so-called conservative pundits and politicians, undermining their campaigns.

The current state of the GOP is what it is precisely because those who are currently entrenched in the upper reaches of the party apparatus are threatened by the current tide of conservatives, who are fed up with the "play along to get along" brand of politicians who currently reside in the august halls of Congress.  They throw around words and phrases meant to marginalize conservatives, saying they are not "statesman-like", or they don't have the proper "temperament". Conservatives are called "right-wing bomb throwers" if they call out Democrats who spew some of the most vile, despicable charges against Republicans. A Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, or any other Democrat, can go before the cameras and accuse Republicans, without an inkling of shame, of wanting to kill seniors, starve children, lynch blacks, et. al., with no impunity or facts, and according to GOP leaders we are supposed to bend over, grab the ankles, and take it.  To speak up and call them out on these incendiary charges, as Rep. Allen West (R-FL) did with Wasserman-Schultz is not, according to the GOP leadership, "statesman-like". In fact, in West's case, he was expected to apologize to her. To his credit, he said not only no, but hell no, he wouldn't apologize.
The state of our country is what it is precisely because we, as conservatives have chosen to take the "high road" in our debates with liberals, while they have made careers of getting down into, and staying, in the muck. President Obama was correct when he said that "you can put lipstick on a pig, but in the end it is still a pig". What was lost on people was that the illustration was more descriptive of Wasserman-Schultz, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, and their ilk, rather than his intended target of Sarah Palin.
Senator Lugar has it wrong, as do so many in the GOP leadership. The problem is not in the Tea Party. The Tea Party does not need to moderate. Does he think that the Democrats are going to suddenly "moderate" their message? The answer is no! Pelosi, Reid, and the rest of the leftists in the Democrat Party, haven't moderated in the past, and they certainly aren't going to suddenly moderate in the future.  The vast majority of their positions are anathema to those who cherish freedom. There is no compromise with their positions.  There is only defeat.  The current GOP leadership is not equipped, intellectually or ideologically, to deal with the current crop of leftists which now hold the reins of power in the Democrat Party.  Boehner, McConnell, and the rest of the GOP leadership show, no ooze, weakness and the Democrats take advantage of that every chance they get. The GOP leadership are afraid to get their hands dirty, let alone get down in the mud with these pigs.
No, Senator Lugar, the problem is not the Tea Party.  The problem is you, and the other weak-kneed career politicians like you.  This country got into the shape it is in on your watch, not the Tea Party's. It's time for you and the rest of the GOP establishment dinosaurs to step aside.

Pelosi on Debt Deal: "We're trying to save life on this planet as we know it today."

I'd prefer that we just work on saving the country from financial ruin.  First step - Drastically cut spending. Second step - Fire Pelosi and the Democrats, as well as every RINO in the Republican Party, starting with John McCain and Lindsey Graham.

McCain Lapdog Lindsey Graham Mum On If He'd Vote For Tax Increases

Posted by Brian
True to form, Lindsey Graham is out front in trying to derail a show of strength by the GOP in debt-ceiling talks with President Obama and the Democrats.  Graham has been a consistent ally of the Democrats in past legislative impasses.  He appears incapable of holding the line on any negotiations when the going gets tough. Look for Snowe, Collins, and the other usual RINO suspects to start raising the white flag in the coming week. I hope I'm wrong, but I have only his past record to go on, and that record is to cut-and-run. When will the voters of South Carolina cut their losses with "Goober" and finally rid the GOP of this hemorrhoid?

GOP's Graham Won't Say If He'd Accept Tax Increases in Debt Ceiling Deal

Thursday, July 07, 2011
By Patrick Ryan

(CNSNews.com) – Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), one of 12 Republican senators to have signed the “Cut-Cap-Balance Pledge” to cut spending, cap the debt, and balance the budget, would not say whether he will vote for a debt-limit increase that includes tax hikes.

Senate Republican Leader McConnell Folds On The Debt Ceiling

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/12/2011 16:28 -0400

Something troubling happened in D.C. today, where it seems that the Senate Republican leader basically just folded like a cheap suit in the ongoing farscial standoff on the debt ceiling (which luckily should bring the whole comedy to an end and the nation can progress with its previously scheduled ponzi collapse). In essence, as Bloomberg says, according to McConnell's proposed 3-Stage plan, "The debt-ceiling increase could occur without the companion spending cuts, McConnell said." Ironically, when we observing comparable posturing by Boehner from two days ago we said "in two weeks we get news of no tax hikes, and no deficit reduction, which will be spun by the great diversionary media machine as the great compromise, and, of course, leading to a $2.5 trillion debt ceiling hike. Win, win for everyone." It seems precisely this is on the agenda. Details on McConnell's plan to basically let the President do whatever he chooses:

Did Mitch McConnell Just Blink?

Do the Senate Republicans Know How To Win??
Did Mitch McConnell just snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory in the debt-ceiling talks?  Maybe that weak chin that he has is an indication of a political glass jaw. If these SOB's capitulate again, there is going to be holy hell to be paid at the ballot box in 2012 - both for Democrats and for the RINO Republicans.

Senate Republicans Considering Back-Door Debt Ceiling Increase

Update: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) proposed a "contingency" plan for raising the debt ceiling Tuesday afternoon.
Saying the "Senate will absolutely not be a party to a default," McConnell described a procedure allowing Obama to formally request a debt ceiling increase, for Congress to consider with a "motion to disapprove."
Only one-third-plus-one votes in the both houses would be needed to raise the debt limit under the plan.
McConnell said spending cuts would not necessarily be a part of the deal, which would raise the debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion in three tranches before the 2012 election.

Bold Colors: The Case For Conservative Candidates

Posted by Brian

Establishment Republicans Blur The Lines Between The GOP and Democrats

I was out and about today, running errands, getting the car worked on, checking out some new music at Rasputin's, and was finally on my way home.  Making a final stop at Wal Mart to pick up the new Harry Potter DVD for my daughter, I headed to the parking lot.  As I exited the store, two men asked me if I would like to sign a petition to move up the California Presidential primary to February.  Knowing that the primaries here are held long after the candidates for President have already been decided, I signed on to the petition.  After all, the state with the greatest population should get some say in who the nominees for President are.
I struck up a conversation with one of the two gentlemen about the 2010 election. The GOP lost every open seat, as well as the Governor's race to Jerry Brown, who was a disaster the first time around in the late 70's and early 80's. A total disaster. In a year that Conservative Republicans made huge gains across the country, the California GOP got shut out.  Sure, we held on to our own seats, but seriously, not one net seat gain?
We began to talk about the 2012 Presidential election.  He mentioned that he liked Romney and Chris Christie. Romney, along with Mike Huckabee, is the candidate that comes up a lot in Republican circles as being a front-runner.  I mentioned that Rick Santorum looks like he may toss his hat in the ring, which I think would strengthen the current field.  He said that we need to nominate a candidate who is "electable", which I take to mean - "too conservative".
This is the problem with the current GOP.  We are constantly told by the media and the GOP establishment, who is electable and who isn't.  We are told that this or that candidate is too conservative to be elected in the general election.  We need to nominate candidates that are more moderate, and who reflect the middle of the road electorate.  This has been, and will continue to be losing strategy for the GOP.  California is living proof of this strategy.  We run moderate Republicans who are "democrat-lite", and who provide no clear choice to voters.
The media machine here in California started pushing Meg Whitman for Governor about a year and a half prior to the last election.  She was "the only one" who was electable from the GOP side.  Same with Carly Fiorina, who ran against Barbara Boxer for the Senate.  In the primary for that race there were two other candidates, Tom Campbell and Chuck Devore.  We were told that to beat Boxer we needed a woman, and besides the two men in the race were too conservative, especially Devore, who is solidly conservative.  In both of those races, the moderate, electable conservatives had their butts handed to them.
We've been told the same thing over the years about Bob Dole, John McCain and others.  We then wonder what happened when they get creamed in the general election.  Yet, when we run strong conservative candidates, with solid conservative messages, more often than not they win.  And they win big.  It happened in 1994, and it happened across the country in 2010.  If you listen to the media, and the so-called experts,
a candidate like Allen West can never win.  Yet, they not only win, they win by large margins.  Why is this?  It is because they give the voters a "clear" choice.  Voters aren't asked to vote for the lesser of two evils, in which the main difference between to two is that one has a "D", and the other an "R" after their name.
The percentage of voters who identify themselves as conservative, versus those identifying themselves liberal, is a 20 point difference in favor of conservatives, yet we don't capitalize on that advantage.  Assuming that the remaining "independent" voters split about 50/50 conservative-leaning, this gives conservative candidates a huge advantage.  Yet, the so-called experts keep telling us that we have to nominate "electable" moderates.
They will even go so far as undermining conservatives to prove their point that conservatives can't win. A case in point is the 2010 Delaware Senate campaign.  When Christine O'Donnell defeated the left-of-center GOP establishment candidate Mike Castle in the primary, Karl Rove went on Fox News and proceeded to publicly eviscerate the conservative Ms. O'Donnell, telling everybody that she couldn't win, and basically that the voters were naive and stupid.  It may have been true that O'Donnell would have lost the election.  But, we'll never know.  The damage had been irreversibly done.  Rove had taken the focus off of Christine O'Donnell's message.  The media, which had now found its opening, gleefully played along in pointing out that even Karl Rove didn't take her as a serious candidate.  Her campaign lost weeks of getting her message out as, they had to go on the defensive.  Rove's rant was a self-fulfilling prophecy.  He is typical of the Republican establishment.  He would rather fill up the House and Senate with a bunch of "R's", even if they are a bunch of Olympia Snowe's, who vote with the Democrat's almost as much as with the Republicans.  Rove is a bean-counter. He is interested in quantity, not quality.  It is this type of thinking that has brought us to the point we are at.
This happens not only at the the national level, but also at the state and local levels.
We are not going to get the perfect candidates every time, or even most of the time. But why do we settle for who the media and the party apparatchiks say are the right candidates?  Screw that! I would rather go down swinging than continue to nominate a bunch of mealy-mouthed, linguine-spined candidates who stick their finger in the politically correct winds every time they have to make a decision.  This country needs conservative public servants who have the fortitude to know who they are, what they believe, and are able to articulate those values and beliefs without worrying what the political cost may be, or if it hurts their reelection chances.
Ronald Reagan once said to "Raise a banner of bold colors, not pale pastels". We have some of those public servants now in people like Marco Rubio, Allen West, and Jim Demint.  We need more of them, but we will not get there if we keep nominating the Lindsay Graham's, Lamar Alexander's and John McCain's.
It is no longer enough to just go out and vote, or to register people to vote anymore, though that is also needed.  Get involved at the local party level, run for local school boards, and city or county offices. Become a part of the your local Republican Party, attend meetings, speak out if they are just towing the establishment line, and replace them if necessary.
The time for settling for the establishment's "electable" candidate is over.  Let's nominate the most solidly conservative candidates we can for a change.  Maybe we can surprise the "experts".  It certainly wouldn't be the first time.  We were told Reagan was too conservative and couldn't win either.

Obama Administration: GOP Cuts Would Kill 70,000 Kids

Posted by Brian
The Democrat playbook never changes.  Any cuts to the budget that the GOP proposes is inevitably met with one of the following:
  • Republicans want to kill/starve children.
  • Republicans want to kill/starve the elderly.
  • Republicans want to pollute the air/streams/oceans/planet.
  • Republican plans will hurt women, children, and minorities hardest.
The only thing more predictable is that the Democrat answer to nearly everything is to raise taxes and increase government spending.  Apparently, only the government know how best to spend money.  The rest of us are just a bunch of idiots who would only waste our money buying "stuff" that we don't need anyway (in thier opinion).
The  sheer arrogance of these "public servants" (Remember.  They are supposed to work for us) is breathtaking.  We have a $3.7 TRILLION budget, and they are squealing like stuck pigs about cutting less than 1% of that.  While the Democrats are utterly predictable in their response, The GOP leadership is predictably weak-kneed in their response to all of this.  John Boehner and Eric Cantor have taken to attacking conservatives and the Tea Party, the people who swept them into power with one of the biggest electoral victories in 70 years.  Conversely, they are pulling a Rodney King with the Democrats, wanting to 'just get along" and compromise on a budget that is so far out of balance that it may take decades to recover from.  Three years ago the Democrats were screaming about Bush's $400 Billion deficit.  Since Obama has taken office the Democrats racked up yearly deficits of $1.2 Trillion and $1.7 Trillion.  Still, the Republican leadership(?) can't find its voice to make a common sense argument to the American people on this, or to stand up to this Democratic thug cabal, and say "enough is enough".
2010 was an electoral bloodbath for the Democrats (a little violent rhetoric for you left-wing, PC metrosexuals out there), but unless some of these GOP leaders and some of the rank-and-file types start showing some progress towards what the voters elected them for, there will undoubtedly be some of these weak-kneed types get swept up in the wash.  Harry Reid May declare the Tea Party dead, but if he and the GOP leadership really think that...they ain't seen nothin' yet.

CBO: Obama understates deficits by $2.3 trillion

The Obama Administration is leading the United States down a path of financial ruin.  The new CBO numbers now show an even more stark number than the $7 Trillion dollar deficit that Obama claims.  This isn't a simple rounding error ("Oops! We forgot to move the decimal.").  The President, I argue, has repeatedly lied to the American public, double counting numbers and using overly-rosy estimates of savings and economic performance to reach his flawed conclusions.  This estimate doesn't even include the cost of ObamaCare which is sure to swell that number by God-knows-how-much.
The question is: Why?  In this writers' humble opinion, it is that Obama is keeping his promise (maybe the only promise he has kept) that he is going to "fundamentally" transform the country.  He doesn't view the United States in the same light that most Americans do.  Obama sees the country as fundamentally flawed.  He sees the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, not as great documents representing a unique set of ideals which has allowed the United States to become, in 200 years, the greatest, most successful country in history, but a seriously flawed one, which is racist and which dictates what government can't do.  He sees us as inherently racist and oppressive.  He is right about one thing - he is "focused like a laser beam" on the economy.  But not in the way that most people envision.  He is focused on destroying the currency and bringing the country to its economic knees. He is well on his way in this endeavor.
If the GOP and some of the traditional "Blue Dog" Democrats don't put the brakes on this President, most of us won't recognize this country.
The 2012 elections are coming up quick.  The current GOP leadership is feckless and weak.  Boehner and Cantor in the House, and Mitch McConnell in the Senate are complete frauds, continuing to allow Pelosi and Reid to set the economic agenda.  Some of the new GOP freshmen, who ran as "Tea Party" conservatives are also proving to be frauds, and are nothing more than Washington status quo yes-men to the leadership, covering their political backsides.  In other words: cowards with no principles.
Yes, 2012 is coming, and we need to sweep out more of the liberal Democrats.  But, we also need to take note of those Republicans who are selling out their principles for improving their position within the Party, and throwing their constituents under the bus in the name of political power.  If not, and if Obama is reelected, the country may never recover.
2012 is going to be very interesting, indeed.

Watch the Obama nominee for Deputy Budget Director try to defend the WH numbers.

WASHINGTON — A new assessment of President Barack Obama's budget released Friday says the White House underestimates future budget deficits by more than $2 trillion over the upcoming decade.
The estimate from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says that if Obama's February budget submission is enacted into law it would produce deficits totaling $9.5 trillion over 10 years — an average of almost $1 trillion a year.
Obama's budget saw deficits totaling $7.2 trillion over the same period.
The difference is chiefly because CBO has a less optimistic estimate of how much the government will collect in tax revenues, partly because the administration has rosier economic projections.
But the agency also rejects the administration's claims of more than $300 billion of that savings — to pay for preventing a cut in Medicare payments to doctors — because it doesn't specify where it would come from. Likewise, CBO fails to credit the White House with an additional $328 billion that would come from unspecified "bipartisan financing" to pay for transportation infrastructure projects such as high speed rail lines and road and bridge construction.

Chris Christie: Budget Myths

Chris Christie better known as Fat BastardImage by Gilded: via Flickr
Living in a YouTube Generation, it is easy to be caught up in all of the hype when videos "go viral".  Chris Christie, or possibly one of his staff, realized early on the power of this medium - and possibly no one has benefitted more from these viral videos. I admit that I was initially pretty excited about a politician who stood up to unions, was somewhat "un-PC", and seemed to be pretty staunchly conservative.  However, several things he said and did started my questioning his conservative bonafides.  To wit - endorsing Mike Castle, one of the most liberal Republicans in the Senate, over Christine O'Donnell in the Delaware primary, and his rather liberal views on Cap and Trade and Global Warming.
All is not always what it seems at first glance.

Myth #2: Gov. Christie took on the public employee labor unions and his reforms have reduced the size of state government.

Here are the facts: For all his YouTube bluster and bravado, Gov. Christie took on local labor unions - not the state labor unions. Except for those school districts which the state controls (Newark, Paterson, Camden, Asbury Park, etc.), teacher contracts are negotiated at the local level and the Governor has no control over their salaries or benefits. But then, why is it desirable for Trenton to equalize funding or for that matter to have any say in funding decisions? Why aren’t those decisions decentralized and localized?

While it is true that in March Gov. Christie signed several health and pension benefits reform bills into law (including legislation that bans part-time employees from enrolling in the state pension system) it is also true that not one department has been shut down nor a single state workers’ position cut from the payroll. The Governor claimed that “my hands are tied by Corzine.”

His hands certainly weren’t tied when it came to the salaries for his staff:

  • Treasury figures show 34 people making $100,000 or more in Christie’s office, compared with 24 for Corzine in April 2009.
  • Corzine had a payroll of $8.43 million for 118 people…Christie has 117 employees, including himself, with a payroll of $8.86 million per year.

Nor were his hands tied when it came to the budget for various state programs. As we saw in Part 1, spending for numerous programs wasn’t cut or even frozen, but INCREASED.

The Feckless GOP House Leadership

While Congress was patting itself on the back for passing a continuing resolution, keeping the government steaming ahead, the debt continues to rise at unprecedented levels.  The Republican House leadership of John Boehner and Eric Cantor has proven to be as impotent as any in recent memory.  Even with the majority, they have become the Boehner Waffle House (h/t to Mark Levin). After having promised to cut spending by $100 Billion, they retreated to $61 Billion, and now $6 Billion. Excuse me if I'm not impressed with leadership(?) that is impressed with themselves over cutting spending from the current $3.7 Trillion budget by less than 1%.  Instead of standing their ground, the feckless GOP leadership is attacking the Tea Partiers as "right-wing extremists".  Apparently, calling for responsibility in spending and demanding that our representatives return to following the Constitution is now considered extremist.
Saying the right thing at election time is not going to cut it anymore.  These establishment Republicans are showing their true colors when it counts most - when the opportunity to really hold the line against spending and ObamaCare presents itself, they go into full retreat mode. This will be remembered on primary day and general election day.  When the Tea Partiers show up again in 2012 and sweep out even more of the RINO's and usher in another wave of conservatives, the weepy Boehner can go on T.V. again and give another of his emotional speeches.  This time he can cry me a river.

U.S. Debt Jumped $72 Billion Same Day U.S. House Voted to Cut Spending $6 Billion

Wednesday, March 16, 2011
By Terence P. Jeffrey

(CNSNews.com) - The national debt jumped by $72 billion on Tuesday even as the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution to fund the government for just three weeks that will cut $6 billion from government spending.

If Congress were to cut $6 billion every three weeks for the next 36 weeks, it would manage to save between now and late November as much money as the Treasury added to the nation’s net debt during just the business hours of Tuesday, March 15.

Chris Christie: You Tube Darling...but Not Conservative

Christie at the swearing-in ceremony of Union ...Image via Wikipedia
Posted by Brian
h/t to Conservative New Jersey

It is easy to get sucked into the Chris Christie hysteria if you watch one of his You Tube videos where he takes apart the Teachers Union, or attacks sacred cows in the New Jersey budget.  But these videos are the side of Chris Christie that Chris Christie wants people to see.  After going through my own bit of excitement about a politician who "got it", my antenna finally went up.  I remembered something that my parents taught me years ago: "If it seems to good too be true, it probably is."
I also remembered this when I first heard this unknown politician in the ninety's named Ross Perot.  I was watching him on T.V., and he seemed to be saying all the right things, and none of the wrong ones.  I was thinking, "Wow! This guy really gets it! He's speaking my language."  It didn't take long though, before I realized that behind all the folksy talk, he had a lot of goofy ideas too.  Kind of like Ron Paul.  Don't get me wrong.  There are some things I like about what all of these guys say, but we have to look at the PR machine behind them sometimes to see the real man (or woman).  Look at all of their positions. Not one or two
So it is with Chris Christie.  I'm not saying he's a bad guy.  I like the fact that he stands up to a lot of the special interests and doesn't take any guff. But, he's not a conservative.  He has some conservative ideas and positions. He also has some ideas and positions which fall waaaay outside the conservative mainstream.  Things like gun control, global warming and Cap & Trade, universal health care, and illegal immigration.  These are not small potatoes we are talking here.  Not when it comes to conservative ideals.
Chris Christie may be great for New Jersey, but conservatives should really find out a whole lot more about him before putting him in the same league as a Marco Rubio, Michelle Bachmann, a Bobby Jindal, or Ronald Reagan.
In my humble opinion, he's not even close.

Chris Christie: A Conservative Myth - Intro

Lately, it has become fashionable among conservatives and Republicans nationwide to lavish effusive praise and encomiums upon Governor Chris Christie as the “Conservative Savior” of New Jersey - and this trend has begun to mushroom into a fervent cult of pseudo-personality that is already calling for him to throw his hat into the 2012 Presidential campaign ring.

NOTE: This is the introductory post for an eight part series. As each part gets published, it will be linked in every other part - including this one. Before complaining that we have offered no proof for our assertions, please take a moment to examine the various posts that have been linked at the end of this post.

No less a luminary than Rush Limbaugh places Gov. Christie on his short list of putative contenders for the Oval Office.
If the polls are right and there is a conservative Republican landslide this week, Limbaugh will turn his attention to imposing the Limbaugh Rule in 2012. I recently asked him to rate a list of the leading aspirants—Newt Gingrich, Haley Barbour, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, and Chris Christie—on a scale of 1 (if this is the nominee, I’m moving to Costa Rica) to 10 (Reagan redux). In reply he gave Huckabee a 4; Pawlenty, Gingrich, and Romney 6’s; Barbour a 7. Palin and Christie each scored an 8.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot…Chris Christie scores an 8… just two notches away from Reagan??!!

McCain Wants To Play Nice With Obama: Vomit Alert

Posted by Brian
John McCain, never one to miss an opportunity to stop conservative momentum in it's tracks, is now making the claim that Obama is now "more centrist".  What is it with these politicians?  Do they really believe that we will fall for everything they say, just because they say it?  I know that McCain lost his conservative moorings long ago, if he ever had them.  But for him to expect that Obama, a true believer in leftist ideology, has somehow "seen the light", and is now a "centrist", is completely naive.  What part of Obama's agenda has moved to the center?  His views on government-mandated health care are the same.  His answer to the economy is still to pour more stimulus money down the drain, though he now calls it "investing". He's holding strong on no drilling, and still attacks the oil companies.  He is putting draconian rules and regulations on coal companies, through the EPA, which will have devastating effects on mining and jobs in that industry. He has not backed down on his "green jobs" initiatives.  So, how is he more centrist? Because he told everybody to "tone down the rhetoric"?  Because the media is telling us that he's "pivoted" to the center?  The only one who has pivoted to the center is John McCain.  I'm only surprised that it took him this long.  Can Lindsay Graham be far behind?
McCain says a 'much more centrist' Obama 'much' easier to work with
By Daniel Strauss - 02/03/11 02:42 PM ET

The president has become more centrist, which makes him easier to work with, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Thursday.

Speaking with Bloomberg Television a day after a private meeting with President Obama, McCain said he could picture working with Obama on several issues going forward.

"I think there's a number of issues we could work on together, and I think it's pretty clear that the president has really pivoted to a much more centrist position, which I think makes it much more for us easier to work with him," McCain said.

Do Our Schools Suck?

This is the kind of knee-jerk overreaction that is reported, seemingly once or twice a week, about a school throwing common sense completely out of the window when dealing with an issue.  Yes, I know. Kids can't bring weapons to school, and safety is paramount.  I get it.  What I don't get is: after an investigation is complete and everything is sorted out, the Principal/School Board/Teacher invariably come to really bad decisions in most of these types of cases.  The decisions always seem to fall as way to lenient, or way to strict. Common sense never enters the equation.  Aside from the punishment, or lack of punishment these kids receive, what concerns me more is the lesson taught to the rest of the kids: Don't use reason and common sense to solve problems. Either react hysterically to relatively small issues, or stick your head in the sand and don't react at all to decisions which have far reaching consequences.  Which leads me back to my original question - Do our schools suck...or what? - Brian

Lunchbox mix-up leads to charges for Sanford teen

Sanford, N.C. — An athletic and academic standout in Lee County said a lunchbox mix-up has cut short her senior year of high school and might hurt her college opportunities.

Ashley Smithwick, 17, of Sanford, was suspended from Southern Lee High School in October after school personnel found a small paring knife in her lunchbox.
Smithwick said personnel found the knife while searching the belongings of several students, possibly looking for drugs.“She got pulled into it. She doesn’t have to be a bad person to be searched,” Smithwick’s father, Joe Smithwick, said. The lunchbox really belonged to Joe Smithwick, who packs a paring knife to slice his apple. He and his daughter have matching lunchboxes.READ MORE HERE--->

Still More Cleaning To Do

The GOP establishment gives another chairmanship to a RINO

First, the Republicans reward Michigan Rep. Fred Upton for banning the light bulb, by putting him in charge of energy. Now they reward Illinois Rep. Tim Johnson for voting against farmers’ property rights, by putting him in charge of–you guessed it– farming.

Tim Johnson (RemoveRINOs’ Queen of Hearts) will head the Rural Development Subcommittee of the House Agriculture Committee. While this is far from a stellar position, the irony is just as palpable as in Upton’s case.

The bill Johnson voted against, an overhaul of the Endangered Species Act (HR 3824, 109th Congress), would have reimbursed property owners when the ESA infringes on their ability to develop their property.

A Republican Who Got The Message Too Late

John ShadeggImage via Wikipedia

Shadegg warns House GOP newcomers: Don’t ‘betray’ grassroots like we did

If the Tea Party movement had come along four years ago, John Shadegg might now be the incoming Speaker of the House.

The Arizona Republican ran for majority leader in 2006 but was beaten by John Boehner, the Ohio Republican who has been minority leader since the fall of 2006 and is now set to take the gavel from Democrat Nancy Pelosi in one week’s time.

Shadegg, who in 2006 was the choice of National Review magazine and the conservative blog Redstate, is going home to Arizona. He decided to retire after 16 years in office.

Shadegg, 61, has a unique perspective on conservative Republican politics. He came to Washington as part of the Republican Revolution of 1994 that swept the GOP into control of the House for the first time since 1954.

Battle between the Tea Party and the Establishment

And now a message from the Republican Party of...Image by Lone Primate via Flickr
The author of this article is spot on.  The 2010 election was only the first salvo in what is sure to be a war that takes three to four election cycles.  This war is not about having purists in the Party.  That is an unrealistic standard, and people will have varying views on separate issues.  The only litmus test that any candidate should have is this: Their views, and thus their decisions, are based on whether or not something is Constitutional.  This standard should be applied to any legislation which is being proposed, as well as to review past legislation, Federal Departments, policies, etc., for de-funding and eventual abolishment.  The Tea Party needs to steel ouselves for the onslaught from the GOP party establishment.  The Murkowski's, Crist's, McCain's and others are not going to go away quietly.  This battle has just begun.  Now is no time for retreat. - Brian

Don’t You Go Away Tea Partiers- The GOP Establishment Is Fighting Back
Published: November 26, 2010

Next week here in my county we’ll have a Republican County Convention, and for those of you who can’t make it, I’ll give you a taste of what it is going to be- a battle between the Tea Party and the Establishment. Although many people in the Tea Party think this is some sort of new battle, it is in reality an old battle in the GOP, one that has pitted the libertarian/conservative/teaparty wing of Taft/Coolidge/Goldwater/Reagan/Palin vs the moderate/establishment/progressive wing of Roosevelt/Hoover/Nixon/Bush/McCain. For many years, the teaparty wing cowardly left the field of battle and stayed home while the establishment types ran thing, or would win a victory and then go home to pat themselves on the back while their victory was watered down by the establishment, but hopefully today will be different, because although the establishment has suffered some defeats lately, they don’t intend on going home either.

Republicans: "Go Rove" or "Go Rogue,"

This is not an endorsement of Sarah Palin.  I simply believe that the author has it right on this one.  The Republicans need to be more about presenting candidates wh are solid conservatives, and who can articulate that conservative message, and quit worrying about if a candidate is too far right in a "blue" state.  Instead of trying to run these mealy-mouthed "moderate" RINO's who tell the voters what they think they want to hear, how about running solid conservative candidates who are more smash-mouth, telling it like it is, and change minds with solid, common-sense conservative principles.  It is defeatest for the Rove's in politics to concede that a state is blue from now until eternity.  It is not just about winning seats, especially when those seats are going to be occupied by people who do not reflect the platform of constitutional conservatism.  They only help to perpetuate the idea that there are no differences in the two Parties.

Going Rove: A Cynical Life
By Nicole Coulter

“A ship in harbor is safe … but that’s not what ships are built for.”
– Sarah Palin at Dayton, Ohio-announcement speech 8/29/2008
(Originallly penned by John A. Shedd in Salt from My Attic, 1928)

Far too many in the GOP these days seem content to play the game of politics not to lose. They’re looking for the least-offensive, most politically correct candidate to nominate against the latest liberal rock star.

The key for the Play-It-Safers is to not offend liberals ... they couldn't care less about offending large swaths of their own party.

Fortunately, a growing number of conservative Republicans are looking for something different. We've tried the safe and inoffensive way, now it's our turn. We want a candidate who will go balls-to-the wall, pedal-to-the medal for victory. Someone who will call out the media – instead of meekly tolerating their reeking piles of horse crap. Someone who won’t call political opponents, “my friends." And someone who doesn’t shrink away from “controversial” social issues, i.e. the pro-life position supported by a majority of Americans.

A hard-working cafe owner has been ordered to tear down an extractor fan - because the smell of her frying bacon 'offends' Muslims.

Planning bosses acted against Beverley Akciecek, 49, after being told her next-door neighbour's Muslim friends had felt 'physically sick' due to the 'foul odour'.

Councillors at Stockport Council in Greater Manchester say the smell from the fan is 'unacceptable on the grounds of residential amenity'.
Planning row: Cafe owner Beverley Akciecek has been ordered to tear down an extractor fan by the council because the smell of cooked bacon 'offends' Muslims
The fan has been in Beverley's Snack Shack takeaway in the Shaw Heath area of the town for the past three years.

Mrs Akciecek and her husband Cetin, 50, - himself a Turkish Muslim - work more than 50 hours a week buying, preparing and cooking hot and cold sandwiches and hot-pots for their customers.
