Media Reporting for Naval Base Shooting Gets A Failing Grade

Posted by Brian

For those of you who watched the wall-to-wall coverage of yesterday's shooting at the Washington, D.C. Naval Shipyard:  Never mind!  Data dump everything you learned from the news yesterday.

In their haste to be the first, news reporters and networks put out a slew of inaccuracies. As a person who has gone to school to be an instructor, one of the first things they teach you, is about a thing called the "Law of Primacy". What the "Law" tells us is that people will remember the first thing that they are taught.  Therefore, it is imperative that the initial information you disseminate to your audience is correct, because that is the information that they are going to remember.  Even if you go back and correct it, the brain will default to the initial info that it learned. That journalists don't know this, or were never taught this, I find difficult to believe. With that in mind, it should be absolutely embarrassing to these people and organizations that this seems to happen during every major crisis, or event.
Q. What's wrong with this picture? A. EVERYTHING! The entire front page is based on a false premise.
An AR-15 rifle was not used by the shooter, and he never had one.

I think a lot of this is because U.S. news services have become both agenda-driven and ratings-driven, and when an incident breaks that fits both agendas simultaneously, just stand back and watch the freak show of pundits and talking heads vying for the award of "most outrageous comment".  If they happen to destroy a persons life or reputation with premature conjecture, so be it.  It's all about the story.

The sheer amount of misinformation put out yesterday in a short span of time is staggering.  Apparently, fact-checking and multiple sources are now arcane journalistic practices best left to the old fossils who are ready to collect their gold watch and pension.   Lost arts, indeed.

Some of the "breaking" news surrounding the shootings:

  • There were up to three gunmen.  False.  There was only one.
  • CNN and ABC both identified the wrong man as the gunman, and had to walk back their initial reports.  Now before you defend the networks with "there was a lot happening very quickly", remember this:  They're making an accusation against an individual of committing a truly evil act. Not something you really want to get wrong!  Richard Jewell never regained his reputation after being falsely identified, tried, and convicted by the media as the "Olympic bomber". Even though Eric Rudolph was later charged, captured, and convicted, the character assassination of Jewell was so intense that instead of being known as the hero who discovered the bomb, cleared the area and prevented unimaginable death and mayhem, he has forever been labeled as an oddball, a wannabe cop who lived with his mother, and the first suspect of the Olympic Park bombing.
  • The gunman used an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle. Once again - FALSE!  The FBI reported that the gunman used a shotgun, and that there was no indication that the gunman ever had an AR-15. However, the reporting of an AR-15 did have the desired effect on the anti-gun crowd. Piers Morgan (of course) jumped on this "news" as did Senator Dianne Feinstein and others, calling for more gun control.  Morgan dedicated a segment in which the facts and data once again had no effect.  No matter.  Piers was in his element, orgasmic in his ignorance.

  • The media reported that 13 were killed in the rampage, insinuating that there were thirteen victims.  But the thirteenth person was the killer himself.  This does not minimize the tragedy.  Twelve families have been torn apart by this sick SOB. So, why would the media make it appear that there were 13 "victims".  Maybe it's because it makes for a nice, tidy tie-in to the Fort Hood shootings in which Nidal Hasan killed 13 soldiers.  Or, maybe not. We don't know. As far as I'm concerned, there are twelve victims.  The killer got what he deserved and is not a victim in my mind.
Is it any wonder that Americans are so skeptical of the news they get from the mainstream media, and a comedy show (the Daily Show)  is considered a major "news source" for the under-25 age group?

"Religious Fanatic": Romney Mocked on CNN for Quoting Psalms in Commencement Speech

Posted by Brian

"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.  As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.  Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: "Ps.127:3-5a

The tolerance of those on the left is striking, unless you are a Christian or Jew. Then you are a fanatic.
It amazes me, the pretzels that the left will turn themselves into in order to make completely contradictory arguments.  On one hand, they speak of protecting women, children, homosexuals, and people of all faiths and race.  On the other, they openly embrace Islam, which advocates misogyny, child abuse and rape, beheading or hanging homosexuals, and enslaving, torturing and executing those who do not convert to their faith.

Piers Morgan and his panel would be outraged at any criticism of the "religion of peace", by are more than giddy, attacking Romney for quoting Psalms at a university which is 90 percent Mormon or Christian, during a commencement speech.
My question for Piers Morgan, who has now shown himself to be anti-2nd Amendment and anti-1st Amendment: When are you going to make good on your promise and deport yourself back to jolly olde England?

Piers Morgan: Amend Both The Bible and the Constitution

Posted by Brian
For a man that came to the United States to partake of all that this country has to offer, his constant complaining about it makes you wonder why he came here in the first place.  Apparently to Morgan, our Constitution and religious beliefs are fundamentally flawed.  In other words, the cornerstones on which this country were built suck.
Piers Morgan seems to be on a crusade to demonstrate how to destroy a career in under thirty seconds.  I don't know if he lives in a hermetically sealed capsule, but he appears completely tone deaf to what's going on around him.  Over eighty thousand people in the United States have signed a petition to have Piers Morgan deported for his anti-American screeds. Though I disagree with poor Piers, I don't think that this is warranted. We do still have free speech in this country.  At least for now.  I personally find MSNBC's Martin Bashear much worse than Piers Morgan.  Both are condescending boors, but while Morgan is idiotic in his opinions, Bashear intentionally misleads, lies, and is truly contemptuous.
One of the truly humorous aspects to this whole "deport Piers Morgan" thing, is that the British have launched their own petition telling their government that they don't want him back!
Maybe Piers Morgan can land a job in Cuba.  I hear that they have even stricter laws against firearms than the Brits.

PIERS MORGAN: BOTH THE BIBLE AND U.S. CONSTITUTION ARE ‘INHERENTLY FLAWED’ AND NEED TO BE AMENDED
Posted on December 26, 2012 at 6:53pm by   Christopher Santarelli

While CNN’s Piers Morgan is a well known critic of America’s Second Amendment, he has now ventured into a new campaign to reform another document critical in the development of western civilization; the Bible.
During a discussion on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Monday — Christmas Eve — with Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren, Morgan argued that there needs to be an “amendment to the Bible” for same-sex marriage, because like the Constitution, the Bible is “inherently flawed.”

Gun Crime Up 89% in Handgun Banning UK, Piers Morgan Still Here

Posted by Brian
I guess Piers Morgan didn't have the time to check the UK stats before making his asinine comments, and calling his guest "not very smart".  Asshat.

Piers Morgan:  Still pissed about 1776?

Guest to Piers Morgan: "Facts Don't Bother You...They Bounce Right Off Your Head"

Posted by Brian

CNN's Euro-weenie, Piers Morgan  had a contentious debate on his show last night with Gun Owners of America head Larry Pratt.  While Pratt reeled off statistic after statistic, Morgan resorted to defamation and insults, calling Pratt "not very smart".
Morgan, like most liberals, resorts to name-calling and and emotional arguments vice educate themselves on a subject.  The statistics to Morgan are anathema to the point he is trying to make, so he simply ignores them.
Keep it up Piers.  You and your ilk give us a daily reminder of the absolute vapid and specious arguments of the average leftist.

‘YOU ARE A DANGEROUS MAN…AND YOU SHAME YOUR COUNTRY’: CNN ANCHOR LASHES OUT AT GUN LOBBY DIRECTOR
Posted on December 19, 2012 at 11:56am by Madeleine Morgenstern

CNN’s Piers Morgan on Tuesday went head-to-head with the executive director of a pro-gun organization, at one point calling him a “dangerous man” who brings “shame” to his country in the wake of the Newtown massacre.  Larry Pratt, head of Gun Owners of America, started off his appearance on “Piers Morgan Tonight” by saying America needs to “ban gun control laws that keep people from being able to protect themselves.”  “The problem is not going to go away if we ban this or that gun,” Pratt said. “We’ve tried that, that doesn’t work. Doesn’t even work in England. You have mass murders there all over Europe, there have been mass murderers.”

Morgan said Pratt was talking “complete and utter nonsense” and said the gun murder rates in Britain, Germany or Australia are far lower than that in the U.S. — “75 against 12,000 in Australia.”  Pratt conceded that the gun murder rate in those countries is indeed lower than the U.S., but that the violent crime rate is higher.

Wasserman-Schultz': It Depends On What The Definition Of "Is" Is Moment

Posted by Brian
As if she were channeling William Jefferson Clinton during his Monica Lewinski deposition, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz strained the boundaries of credulity during an interview with Piers Morgan of CNN.
Under questioning from Morgan about Obama Administration statements regarding the Benghazi attacks in which four Americans died, and how they directly contradicted what had actually happened, Wasserman-Schultz said:
Well that doesn't mean it was false. It doesn't mean that it was deliberate.
I guess it depends on what your definition of "is" is.
This is nothing new from DWS.  Her serial lying, and misrepresenting of her opponents words and positions are well documented.  But, it appears even Piers Morgan has had enough of the outright lies  coming from this Administration and the Democrat leadership.
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz needs to be defeated in November.  Her constituents, Florida, and the United States deserve much better than what this compulsive liar offers.

FidelCastro/Hugo Chavez Boot-licker Sean Penn says Rick Santorum "anti-American"

Posted by Brian
H/T to NewsBusters

Fast-forward thirty years, and Jeff Spicoli, the burned-out stoner from Fast Times at Ridgemont High, appears with Piers Morgan in a prime-time CNN interview.  A little grayer, and sporting a mustache you normally see on some guy wearing polyester plaid pants and an open-chested shirt, he reminded me of a guy I saw in San Francisco trying to entice people off the street to enter a place called the 'Condor Club'. His sales pitch was, "See Juicy Lucy, the human tripod!".

Well, Spicoli may be older, but he is no wiser than when he sat in Mr. Hand's class at Ridgemont. He does, however, sound just as wasted.

Sean Penn is living proof that a great actor does not mean you are a great thinker. Great actors immerse themselves in characters, able to feel and express the emotions of those characters. Sean Penn is better than most. From 'Fast Times', 'Taps', 'Carlito's Way, 'Dead Man Walking, 'I Am Sam', to 'Milk', Penn has brought to life some memorable characters.

The other side of Sean Penn is his political activism.  In this, he has, and continues to embrace unfailingly embrace every leftist/socialist/communist dictator around. While claiming to be "pro-American", he bad-mouths the very country that has made him a wealthy person.

Stating that Rick Santorum has not read the Constitution is typical leftist hyperbole, based on Santorum's time in the Senate and having a Law degree, but then claiming that it is he that is pro-American and pro-Constitution is simply laughable.  I'm sure that Fidel and Hugo got a big kick out of it too.

Sean Penn should, if he feels America is as horrible as he has said in the past, renounce his citizenship and move to Cuba or Venezuela.  Maybe even Argentina. They have the modern-day version of Evita running their country now. It's sure to become a worker's paradise, just like Cuba, over the next decade or so.

Sean Penn: Rick Santorum Is 'Anti-American' - 'Did Not Read the Constitution'

By Noel Sheppard | April 23, 2012 | 22:14

Sean Penn on Monday said former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) is "anti-American" and "did not read the Constitution."
Rather hysterically, the Oscar-winning actor also told CNN's Piers Morgan, "I am very pro-American in the sense of a Constitutional America": (Continue Reading Here)
