"Mute Him!" WaPo's Rubin Nails Schuster For Using Media Matter Benghazi Talking Points

Jennifer Rubin Goes Off On David Shuster For Reciting ‘Media Matters Talking Points,’ Tells CNN To ‘Mute’ Him
by Meenal Vamburkar | 3:31 pm, May 19th, 2013

Reliable Sources got heated on Sunday morning when the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin clashed with David Shuster during a discussion about ABC News’ Jonathan Karl — who issued a statement “regretting” the error he made in reporting on emails about Benghazi talking points. Going after Shuster for parroting “Media Matters talking points,” she suggested CNN “mute” him.

MSNBC Bashir, Guest Attack NRA With Media Matters Talking Points

Posted by Brian

The condescension and smugness is dripping from Martin Bashir and Karen Finney as their discussion of the Newtown shootings are turned into an attack on the National Rifle Association.  From the tone of this discussion, a person might think that it was the NRA who went in and killed 28 students and teachers, rather than a lone mental defect.  Their complaint is that the NRA has not said anything in the wake of the tragedy, but has instead chosen to remain respectfully silent, and not enter the politicization of this tragedy.
Bashir and Finney represent the inanity and intellectual vacuousness of the typical leftist.

NBC NEWS HOST, ANALYST LIFT NRA ATTACK POINTS FROM MEDIA MATTERS
by LARRY O'CONNOR  17 Dec 2012

The attack on the National Rifle Association is fully engaged over at NBC News cable outlet MSNBC today.  Martin Bashir hosted a slanted and hostile discussion that went beyond advocating for restrictions on the constitutional right to bear arms, it targeted and pummeled the NRA.

Breitbart Is Here...and So Is Rush Limbaugh

Posted by Brian
H/T to The Blaze

Taking a page from Andrew Brietbart, Rush Limbaugh is no longer being passive about the constant attacks on him by Media Maters, and is going on offense.
What, you say? But, doesn't Limbaugh have three hours a day to spew his venom at the left?  Yes, he does have that three hours, but for anyone who has listened to Rush for any length of time, he rarely speaks about himself.  He has a hard enough time just getting through his "stack of stuff" to spend much time on his personal trials. Besides, as he admits, he isn't comfortable talking about himself.
With the new social media (Twitter, Facebook) playing a larger role in how people get information, Rush is embracing it and taking his message to a much larger audience.  Unfortunately for Media Matters, Rush has his sites set squarely on them, presumably with the intent of exposing their ties to the White House, the Mainstream Media, working as attack dogs for the Democrat Party, and hopefully having their tax-exempt status removed as a non-profit, non-partison entity.
When MMfA went after Limbaugh, one wonders if they bit off more than they can chew...and did they see the holy-shit storm coming their way?!

LIMBAUGH HITS BACK AT MEDIA MATTERS: LAUNCHES SITE SECTION DEDICATED TO REFUTING ITS ‘FACTS’

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 11:02am by Erica Ritz

After years of verbally combating Media Matters’ ceaseless assaults, Rush Limbaugh has taken a more concrete step towards refuting the vocal leftist organization.

On his website, Limbaugh now has an entire section dedicated solely to setting the record straight on dubious Media Matters allegations.  Found at “mediamatters.rushlimbaugh.com,” the page begins with an introduction of the group:

Media Matters Fascist Campaign Against Limbaugh

Posted by Brian
Media Matters, self-proclaimed defenders of journalistic fairness, have begun a full-frontal assault on free speech.  Using Rush Limbaugh as their focal point, they have begun radio ads in eight markets in an attempt to pressure local stations to drop Limbaugh from the airwaves.
By now, most have heard of Limbaugh's over the top remarks about Sandra Fluke, and the ensuing firestorm and feigned outrage from many on the left as well as some on the right. Regrettable as Rush's words were (he has since  publicly apologized), the incident also exposed the abject hypocrisy of those on the left who are virtually silent when liberal hosts and entertainers make remarks that are just as, if not much more outrageous and vile than what Limbaugh uttered.
Political commentators such as Ed Schultz and Keith Olbermann have made comments that are much more beyond the pale than anything Limbaugh has said. Then, there are the so-called leftists like Bill Maher, who get free passes because he is doing "comedy", when he calls Sarah Palin a "c**t" or Michelle Bachmann a "bimbo".
In these and many other instances, Media Matters remain silent.  Keep in mind that Media Matters is a tax-exempt charitable organization.  Yet their attacks are saved exclusively for conservative talk show hosts, the GOP and Fox News. Their blatant bias is so in-your-face that their tax-exempt status is now being challenged. We are also finding out that Media Matters has had a plan since 2009 to attempt to get Rush Limbaugh off the airwaves.
Rush Limbaugh lit the fuse that started this firestorm, but Media Matters has been standing by with the cans of gasoline for over three years to turn a small brushfire into a manufactured media inferno.
This is not just an attack on Limbaugh. This is an attack on all who value free-speech. Radio hosts, bloggers, and ordinary citizens. You may agree or disagree with Rush Limbaugh, Ed Schultz, or Keith Olbermann, but their right to voice their opinions should not be squelched by David Brock and Media Matters' Stalinist crusades.

Media Matters Launches New Ad Campaign Slamming Rush Limbaugh
Despite the media firestorm surrounding Rush Limbaugh having died down, the conservative radio host isn't off the hook just yet.
According to the Washington Times, the liberal watchdog group Media Matters has launched a $100,000 ad campaign criticizing the host for calling Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute" after she testified before the House on contraception.
The ads are currently being broadcast in eight cities, with some urging listeners to tell their local radio stations to take Limbaugh's show off the air and including the telephone numbers of stations broadcasting Limbaugh's show.

Media Matters Tax Exempt Status Questioned

Posted by Brian

Media Matters tax-exempt status may face new scrutiny from Congress
Published: 12:58 AM 02/15/2012 | Updated: 1:34 PM 02/16/2012

Congressional Republicans are now interested in examining Media Matters For America‘s tax-exempt status, The Daily Caller has learned. Doing so would cause the GOP to wade into the complex world of tax laws that govern “exempt organizations” such as Media Matters and more than 1 million other charitable organizations that are exempt from federal income tax.
Media Matters’ critics have questioned its tax-exempt status for some time. The Internal Revenue Service has a series of requirements that must be met before organizations can qualify. Successful applicants pay no federal income tax because the government presumes such charities perform services that benefit the public. Donors also may deduct their charitable contributions.
One central requirement before an organization like Media Matters can achieve the gold-standard nonprofit status — known by its place in the tax code, Section 501(c)(3) — is that it may not “attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities” or “participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.”

Media Matters Paid $50K to Monitor and Attack Religious Programs

Posted by Brian

Media Matters accepted $50K grant for ‘fact checking’ religious broadcasts

The liberal Media Matters for America organization once accepted a $50,000 grant to monitor and attack religious news outlets, according to tax returns examined by The Daily Caller.
The grant came in 2006 from the ARCA Foundation, a 60-year-old philanthropy that funds Democratic causes. The foundation gave Media Matters the $50,000 “to support a Religious Broadcasting Project to expand the monitoring and fact checking of religious broadcasts,” according to its tax return that year.
Becca Freedman, a program associate at the ARCA Foundation, told TheDC by phone that she could not immediately provide any details about the grant because the executive director who worked there in 2006 is no longer employed by the foundation.

Dershowitz: Media Matters Rhetoric On Israel What "you see on neo-Nazi websites"

Alan Dershowitz: Media Matters could become Rev. Wright of 2012 for Obama
By Jamie Weinstein - The Daily Caller Published: 12:09 PM 02/14/2012 | Updated: 12:10 PM 02/14/2012

Liberal Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz says Media Matters could become the Rev. Jeremiah Wright of 2012 for the Obama campaign if the White House and the Democratic Party don’t clearly distance themselves from the organization.
“Well I think if swing voters in the pro-Israel community had any idea how extreme Media Matters was on issues of Israel and supporters of Israel, they would regard Media Matters as another, you know, Rev. Wright,” Dershowitz told The Daily Caller.
“And for many, many in the pro-Israel community, it would be a game changer.”
Dershowitz went so far as to suggest that Media Matters’s rhetoric on Israel, particularly from Media Matters Action Network senior fellow M.J. Rosenberg, is similar to what one would find on a neo-Nazi website.

Media Matters Smear Campaign Against Fox News Employees

Media Matters memo called for hiring private investigators ‘to look into the personal lives’ of Fox employees
By Tucker Carlson Published: 10:51 PM 02/13/2012 | Updated: 10:58 PM 02/13/2012

A little after 1 p.m. on Sept. 29, 2009, Karl Frisch emailed a memo to his bosses, Media Matters for America founder David Brock and president Eric Burns. In the first few lines, Frisch explained why Media Matters should launch a “Fox Fund” whose mission would be to attack the Fox News Channel.
“Simply put,” Frisch wrote, “the progressive movement is in need of an enemy. George W. Bush is gone. We really don’t have John McCain to kick around any more. Filling the lack of leadership on the right, Fox News has emerged as the central enemy and antagonist of the Obama administration, our Congressional majorities and the progressive movement as a whole.”
“We must take Fox News head-on in a well funded, presidential-style campaign to discredit and embarrass the network, making it illegitimate in the eyes of news consumers.”

MMfA: David Brock's Enemies List

Inside Media Matters: David Brock’s enemies list
By Vince Coglianese - The Daily Caller Published: 12:00 PM 02/13/2012 | Updated: 12:03 PM 02/13/2012

An internal Media Matters For America memo obtained by The Daily Caller reveals that the left-wing media watchdog group employs an “opposition research team” to target its political enemies. Included in the list of targets are right-leaning websites, conservative think tanks, prominent financiers and donors, and more than a dozen specific Fox News Channel and News Corporation employees.

BOMBSHELL! Obama, WH, News Organizations Coordinate Message With Media Matters

Posted by Brian
Lucy! You got some 'splaining to do!  Conservative turned left-wing hatchet man David Brock (sounds like Ed Schultz) is exposed in this investigative report by The Daily caller as a man who built a propaganda machine called Media Matters into an empire connected to the highest political office in the land. Described as an iron-fisted tyrant to his employees, with a healthy dose of clinical paranoia thrown in, it may be all about to crumble.
This first in a series of pieces by Tucker Carlson, Vince Coglianese, Alex Pappas and Will Rahn show how Media Matters for America (MMfA) not only twist innocuous things into blockbuster news items, but how other members of the media, and even the White House, take MMfA's lead to coordinate their stories.  For years I have heard talk radio titan Rush Limbaugh play audio montages of news anchors, pundits and politicians use the exact same verbiage in their "reporting". Now, it all makes sense.  MMfA puts it out, and everyone from reporters at the Washington Post to MSNBC to The Daily Kos are reporting the exact same thing, sometimes with little to no change. I have spoken about "media malpractice" in the past, when a story is so over-the-top that even cursory investigation will prove a piece to be not only inaccurate, but an outright lie. Yet, even when they are caught red-handed, the media poo-poo the notion that they are biased and chalk it up to an "honest mistake". No retraction. No apology. Just move on to the next hit piece.
Media Matters is a threat to the country and needs to be shut down. A little harsh you say? What about the First Amendment? Freedom of the press is one of our most basic rights. But when the press is willfully lying to the American people, it is no longer news. It is propaganda. David Brock is someone that Josef Goebbels would be proud of. Those members of the press who have blindly "reported" what has come out of MMfA should have their press credentials revoked. They no longer have any credibility. As for the White House coordinating, and having weekly strategy meetings with this propaganda group - this should scare the hell out of you!
This is not only a great piece by The Daily caller, it is one of the most important investigative reports since the Watergate days.  It exposes an institutional fraud foisted upon the American people by a press that we used to trust to present us with accurate news. I used to say that much of what was reported was opinion wrapped up as news. It's clear now that it is even more insidious than I imagined.

Inside Media Matters: Sources, memos reveal erratic behavior, close coordination with White House and news organizations
By Tucker Carlson, Vince Coglianese, Alex Pappas and Will Rahn -
The Daily Caller Published: 10:02 PM 02/12/2012

This is the first in a Daily Caller investigative series on Media Matters For America. Daily Caller reporters Alex Pappas and Will Rahn contributed to this report.
David Brock was smoking a cigarette on the roof of his Washington, D.C. office one day in the late fall of 2010 when his assistant and two bodyguards suddenly appeared and whisked him and his colleague Eric Burns down the stairs.
Brock, the head of the liberal nonprofit Media Matters for America, had told friends and co-workers that he feared he was in imminent danger from right-wing assassins and needed a security team to keep him safe.
The threat he faced while smoking on his roof? “Snipers,” a former co-worker recalled.

Herman Cain: American Spectator Hangs Mother Jones, Media Matters With Their Own Rope

Posted by Brian
Great piece by Jeffrey Lord of The American Spectator

Mother Jones, Media Matters Dodge on Lynching

There they go again.
The American left, caught in the act of brandishing their electronic rope for yet another conservative black man, is busy dodging their long and horrendous history of racism.
Mother Jones tries to turn attention from the left's abysmal record on lynchings -- high tech or with a rope -- by re-visiting my criticism of ex-Agriculture official Shirley Sherrod. My point back then, of course, was that Ms. Sherrod cited a Supreme Court case in which she claimed the Court said her relative was lynched. I read the case. The words "lynch" or "lynching" appeared exactly nowhere in the case. Ms. Sherrod, surprise, finally emerged as just another standard left-winger who, sadly, employs race and state to push a progressive agenda. That was my criticism and it stands.
But the Sherrod incident highlights exactly why leftist publications are so wildly excitable on the subject of lynching, as Media Matters is here as it foams about (the list is long) Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Matt Drudge, Monica Crowley, Peter Johnson Jr., Greg Gutfeld, Brent Bozell, Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit and yours truly. All of us having in our individual fashion called them out on their wretched history. (Note to Media Matters: You missed Mark Levin. Get on the stick over there.)
The American left has a brutal and vivid centuries-long history on race, as we have previously detailed at length here and here.
