Death of Common Sense: Man Faces 30 Days Jail time For Laughing

Posted by Brian

New York's 'Theatre of the Absurd' continues down its merry way.
They say laughter is the best medicine, but for a Long Island man who chooses to laugh at his neighbor as a way to deal with his bullying, may face jail time for his guffawing tactic.
A neurologically disabled man faces 30 days in jail  for laughing at his bullying neighbor, who calls him "retard" and other derogatory names.
Robert Schiavelli was slapped with two tickets for "disturbing the peace" for his jovial manner of dealing with his neighbor.
The judge in the case, Judge William Croutier, whom you might think would drop the case, and applaud the man for dealing with his neighbor by using humor instead of a more violent means of confrontation, said that he was "not inclined" to drop the case.
Schiavelli's lawyer said that he "would never let him take a plea" on the charges.
More and more, I look out over the landscape and see an America I do not recognize. Incivility is the "norm", while we are told by those same people to be tolerant.  Unfortunately, too many refuse, or are incapable of speaking out against those who level unfounded charges of racism, sexism, bigotry, and intolerance.  People have become their own PC police, afraid to tell the truth and call a spade a spade, for fear of being called racist, homophobic, Islamaphobe, or some other label meant to cause individuals to self-edit themselves for "perceived" intolerance.
People have put their ability to think critically on hold, resulting in absolutely ridiculous stories like this. A real judge would laugh this case out of court. The police officer who issued the tickets would have lectured the neighbor for wasting his time, and told him that maybe he shouldn't be calling this disabled man a "retard".  In other words: "Get over it!"
Common sense is quickly becoming a thing of the past, being replaced by blind allegiance to a politically correct religion where people willingly censor themselves, their thoughts, and their words.
We are living in an Orwellian society.
