California "No Rights" List: Gun Registration Leading to Confiscation

Posted by Brian

Does anyone still believe that firearms registration doesn't lead to confiscation?  California Attorney General Kamal Harris apparently believes that it not only gives her the authority, but she is putting her belief into action.
She claims that law enforcement are only confiscating firearms from those who are no longer "qualified" to own a weapon, even though they may have been purchased legally.  She claims that it is for people who have been deemed to have "lost their rights" to own firearms due to criminal convictions, restraining orders, or mental health detentions.  There are currently 19,700 Californians on the "No rights" list.  To date, 10,000 firearms have been confiscated.
Already, there is a man who had his firearms confiscated because his wife "voluntarily" had herself committed to a hospital to adjust her medications.
The program, which has already been given $24 million to implement, leaves me to wonder how many veterans who may need mental health care, make the decision not to seek treatment if doing so puts them on a permanent list which denies them the right to own firearms.
There is no word yet on what the state plans to do about the millions of illegal firearms owned by criminals and illegal immigrants once they have confiscated firearms from those who have purchased and registered their firearms legally.

California again proves that purpose of registration is confiscation
SECOND AMENDMENT MARCH 13, 2013BY: KURT HOFMANN

CA Attorney General Kamala Harris
"Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn't mean that we're not going to walk into that home and check to see if you're being responsible..."
For those who have not paid attention to history, and are thus unaware that the very point of any gun registration regime is the eventual confiscation of the registered, and thus conveniently pinpointed, guns, California is kindly offering another lesson.

From Bloomberg:  Wearing bulletproof vests and carrying 40-caliber Glock pistols, nine California Justice Department agents assembled outside a ranch-style house in a suburb east of Los Angeles. They were looking for a gun owner who’d recently spent two days in a mental hospital.

How did they know this individual was a gun owner?

California is the only state that tracks and disarms people with legally registered guns who have lost the right to own them, according to Attorney General Kamala Harris.

Ah, yes--Kamala Harris. We've discussed her before, regarding her advocacy of "body armor control," and her perhaps even more chilling apparent disregard for the Fourth Amendment:

The idea, she contends, is to remind legal gun owners how to behave.

"Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn't mean that we're not going to walk into that home and check to see if you're being responsible and safe in the way that you conduct your affairs," Harris said.
