Trillions Is For Astronomy!

Remember when the word "trillion" used to be by spoken only when speaking in terms of things in astronomy?  We as humans have a hard time wrapping our heads around a number that big.  Even when talking about distances between galaxies and solar systems, trillions was still a number that was just soooo big.  To make it easier, astronomers started speaking in terms of "light years", just so the miles number didn't freak people out.  It made the universe a little cozier.  One hundred light years just sounds a lot closer than 600 trillion miles.  It's just too many zeros to keep straight in your head.  So, the fact that Obama's budgets will have added $6 trillion dollars to the debt in just 4 years leads to, I believe, a lot of Americans who can't even conceive of that.  When politicians were talking of running deficits of  hundreds of billions of dollars during Bush, the American people got pissed, and rightly so.  Now they speak of deficits that are $1.2 trillion more than Bush's, 4 times greater, and many just shrug.  It is so big that it's not real.  It's like monopoly money to them.  But the fact is, is that it is real, and Obama and the Democrats are pushing the United States over the precipice and into the abyss, unless conservative Republicans stand firm in opposing any new spending.  Any spending budget should be a 5:1 cuts to spending ratio, with across the board cuts in tax rates of 50% minimum, and includes a 2-year moratorium on capital gains taxes, just to kick-start the economy.
The thing is, do the entrenched GOP elite have the cojones to do even half of that?

The Democrats' Big Government Breakout

By Peter Ferrara on 6.1.11 @ 6:08AM

Historic battle lines are being drawn in the budget battle in Washington that too few understand. The Democrats are supporting an unprecedented breakout of Big Government taxes and spending. The Republicans are trying to draw the line at the stable level of federal taxes and spending relative to the economy that has prevailed throughout the postwar era up until now, and provided the foundation for the dominating postwar American prosperity.

At stake is whether the prosperity of the American Dream that has drawn millions to these shores over the years will endure. Or whether America will settle into permanent decline, a fading shadow of its former self. Is that the future you want to raise your family in? Is that the legacy you want to leave your children or grandchildren?
