Extremist Obama Presents Straw Men, But No Solutions Or Ideas

The President emerged from his latest meeting with Speaker John Boehner and Senate Leader Harry Reid empty-handed in the budget battle. His 5 minute press conference was spent telling us in dire terms what a "shutdown" of the government might look like.  It was the usual pablum of people being "inconvenienced" by a shutdown - not being able to get a passport, hundreds of thousands of people out of work, etc...

Lost in all of this is that the President has not presented a single proposal during this entire process.  Nor has Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, or any other Democrat.  Meanwhile the Democrats are pulling out the 1995 playbook, accusing Republicans of depriving senior citizens of meals, going like a "tornado through nursing homes", blah, blah, blah.  Yet the media, save Fox News, are mostly silent on the fact that Democrats failed to pass this fiscal year's budget last year when they held the House, the Senate, and the White House.  Presumably, the Dems punted on the budget because the poll numbers for the November election already looked dire for them, and another massive spending budget would have put a stake through their political hearts.  So instead of either Reid or Pelosi taking a principled stand  back in October, they both chose the cowards way out and punted to the new Republican Congress.

This battle is a purely political strategy by the Democrats, who thought they could re-create the 1995 budget battle, in which the Republicans lost the P.R. battle. However, it is the Democrats who are getting bloodied this time around.

If the Republicans don't hold their ground in cutting a measly $61 billion from a $3.7 trillion budget, it will not bode well for when they present the Paul Ryan budget later in the year, which addresses $6.7 trillion in cuts and  lowers spending to 2008 levels.  The Tea Party swept the GOP back into power to significantly cut spending, and for Boehner to fold now would be a betrayal to all who made his rise to House Speaker possible.

If the Dems feel like they get the best of the Republicans in this battle, they will smell blood, and be emboldened for the next fight.  Conversely, if the GOP bloodies the noses of the Dems, I fully expect the Dems to become even more vicious.  I welcome this as the Democrats will not be able to control themselves and will  expose their true socialist agenda, effectively lifting the veil on who they really are, and what they really stand for.
