Senator Troubled That UPS Missed Christmas Deliveries, Unfazed About New Jan 1 Taxes and Healthcare Premium Increases

Posted by Brian

"…and then I made them think I really care!"
Really? This is what our historically esteemed "World's greatest deliberative body" has been reduced to? A senator, starved for attention, scolding United Parcel Service for missing scheduled deliveries due to unforeseen acts of God, combined with a surge of last-minute shoppers trying to get packages delivered.
A perfect storm? Maybe. Something the U.S. Senate, or a Senator, should be concerning themselves with? He's got to be kidding, right?
This is the mentality that the liberals want the American public to adopt.  For every problem, big or small, they want you to turn to the government. It's why idiots call 911 at midnight to complain that McDonalds won't serve them chicken nuggets. Government has successfully fostered a dependent mentality in intergenerational low income families. They look to government for everything - food, shelter, money, phone, and even chicken nuggets.
The UPS's missed deliveries provides an even bigger opportunity for the liberals and statists. Americans who don't normally fall into the traditional dependent classes liberals like to exploit,  the middle and upper income brackets, were also caught up in this. What better way to attempt to pull them into, maybe not the dependent fold, but to be more sympathetic to the idea that government really "cares".
So Senator Blumenthal is out there screaming that UPS, Amazon - private companies - need to "do the right thing", and give refunds to their customers for not giving on-time deliveries. We already know that the missed deliveries are a PR nightmare for UPS and Amazon. How is he so sure that they aren't already planning some sort of refund or other incentive to customers to satisfy them?  He doesn't.  This is just political grandstanding.
Another thing that no one I have heard mention is what responsibility some of the customers may have in some of this.  Should customers accept some to the responsibility for waiting until the last minute to mail presents off?  Maybe they should have not procrastinated.  Or, God forbid(!), they could have phoned the affected friends or relatives to inform them that their present might not get there in time for Christmas morning, or maybe telling them that on the bright side, it just extends their joy. Hell, I don't know.  Take some responsibility, will ya?
I know.  I'm a terrible person, probably even a grinch, just for mentioning that people might even share in a little of the responsibility in how everything happened.
And why is a U.S. Senator involved in this for Christ's sake? This guy is a Senator! He, supposedly, represents the interests of his State of Connecticut. Not individuals. The State.  There are people called "Representatives" who represent the People.  Not that their Representatives should get involved in this either. How does John or Joan Q. Citizen not getting their delivery fall under his purview? They don't.  But that doesn't matter.  What matters is the perception that he cares.
Meanwhile, on January 1st, every person in his state, and every other one as well, is going to be hit with a barrage of new taxes as ObamaCare starts to really kick in, not to mention the outrageous deductibles people are getting hit with before benefits are even payed out. Of course this only includes the people who haven't been kicked off their plans (the ones we all were supposed to be able to keep) and who fortunately still have their health insurance, or the few who have been able to sign up through the exchanges.
While Blumenthal is stroking you with his feigned Christmas spirit, sympathizing that your presents didn't arrive on time, he is silent on the fact that you're about to get a significant tax increase on January 1st. I guess his caring, like most liberals, only extends so far.
Happy New Year!

Murders Of School-Age Children DOWN 42% Since 1993

Posted by Brian

In spite of statistical evidence that the murder of children is down 42% over the last 17 years, liberal hysteria over the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary is causing lawmakers and news anchors to call for everything from even stricter gun laws to the outright banning and confiscation of so-called assault weapons. This, despite the fact that Connecticut, where the shootings occurred, has some of the strictest gun laws in the country.  This despite the fact that the killer did not use an assault weapon, but a pistol. This, despite the fact that stricter gun laws do NOT correlate to lower murder or crime rates, and in fact often lead to higher crime and murder rates.
But don't expect them to let statistics, common sense, or the U.S. Constitution stand in their way of trying.

DOJ: Murders of School-Age Children Down 42%; Only 1% Take Place at School
By Terence P. Jeffrey December 17, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - Murders of school-age children---those between the ages of 5 and 18—declined by 42 percent between the 1992-93 school year and the 2008-2009 school year, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, and only about 1 percent of the school age children murdered during the 2008-2009 school year were murdered at school.

In February 2012, the Bureau of Justice Statistics published a report—“Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2011”—that included statistics on homicides committed at schools for the school years from 1992-93 through 2009-2010. The report also included the total number of all school-age children who were murdered at school or elsewhere from the 1992-93 school year through the 2008-2009 school year.

Soledad O'Brien: Pro-Gun Crime Statistics "Boggle My Mind"

Posted by Brian

The anti-gun hysteria over the Connecticut elementary school shootings is in full panic mode, and none is more irrational, or immune to facts and statistics than the ever-argumentative and condescending Soledad O'Brien.  Despite being presented with numerous examples of how gun-free zones have been, without exception, been the targets of all of the major multiple victim shooting sprees in the country since the 1950's, or that the worst school shooting have occurred in the country with one of the most restrictive gun laws in the world, Germany, O'Brien's response? It doesn't matter. 'Guns bad'.
She is a perfect example of the liberal mindset.  Facts don't matter.  Thinking is not a requirement.  Disengage the brain and react to all things emotionally.  It's the "good intentions" that matter.  That the same thing will continue to happen as a result of my feel-good liberal policies is not the point.  The point is that I feel good about myself, because I care.   And anyone who doesn't agree with me is a cold, heartless, irrational SOB.

CHALLENGE TO GUN CONTROL NARRATIVE RESULTS IN SOLEDAD O'BRIEN MELTDOWN
by JOHN NOLTE  17 Dec 2012, 6:08 AM PDT

CNN's Soledad O'Brien invited author and frequent Breitbart News contributor, John Lott, to come on her show this morning. It's pretty obvious that his recent appearances on other CNN shows, where he advocated for fewer gun control laws, had made her angry and that she saw this as an opportunity to take a whack at him.

Oregon Mall Shooter Stopped by ARMED Citizen, Media Silent

Posted by Brian

Prior to the tragedy in Sandy Hook, CT where 28 people were killed, including 20 children, another potential horrific tragedy was averted at a shopping mall in Oregon.  A gunman opened fire, but was stopped by another man who had a concealed weapon, causing the shooter to flee and eventually take his own life.
How many news outlets will report that this tragedy was thwarted early on by a man with a legally registered CWP handgun?

Media blackout: Oregon mall shooter was stopped by an armed citizen
LIBERAL MEDIA BIASDECEMBER 15, 2012BY: DAVE GIBSON

While reports of Tuesday's shooting at the Clackamas Town Center Mall in Oregon, dominated the national media, until Friday's horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, one very important detail has been repeatedly (and intentionally) left out of the MSM's coverage.

The shooter, Jacob Tyler Roberts, was confronted with an armed citizen, at which time he ran away and shot himself. By the time police arrived on the scene, Roberts was already dead.

That armed man was 22-year-old Nick Meli, who was at the mall shopping with a young woman who was babysitting her friend's baby.
